Ph unstable. Why?

    I'm growing in soil. I mixed up a batch of food today & using my essentials ph pen as usual. As I move the pen around it's going from 5.5 to 6.5 ?? All over the place. I checked & recalibrated it twice to be sure with buffer 7. Then went back to another batch of food I'd prepared 10 mins earlier & was waiting for it to cool couple degrees. Never needed any ph up there as it comes in @ 6.0/ 6.1. That seemed to balance ok. Until I went back & weirdly now as I move the pen its range up & down is crazy. The food seems well unstable. What's causing this as my girls need food urgently!!

    Sounds like the pen to me. You could check that pen against your water and then try something different and see if it is only doing it when you use it on that mix ur doing

    Is this one of those yellow rebranded pens? If so yep thats the problem.

    It's a weird 1 for sure? I've got a spare cheap Chinese pen, which I used to use b4. I decided to supposedly upgrade to the more reliable essentials pen? I did obviously check the reliability between each of them. They was only .1 to .2 out so chinese cheap 1 was ok anyway lol.
    So I had to nip out but I'm on my way back for round 2?
    Gonna chuck both batches away & start again. Only difference this time was I brought 2 water heaters & 2 water temperature readers. To not waste food left to cool too much. That was the idea but I cant see temp making a difference as never has b4. Plus all devices are factory temp compensated?

    When calibrating a pen its usually suggested to have 2 different ph solutions. A higher one and a lower one. Usually 4.0 and 7.0, that way you can make sure the low end and high end are reading correctly.

    Lol gotta laugh coz I did start out back a few years with 1 of those. Did upgrade if you can call it that? To what I understand most ppl use & that'sthe PH pen made by essentials. But I did cross check the cheap Chinese version against the Essentials upgraded pen. Guess what it was only .1/.2 out from the essentials more 'reliable/expensive pen?! But yep in more cases you need to spend the right money for the right product!
