Ok guys, sadly noobish question, but i was told at a young age that PH for what you water should be in the 6.0 range always, that was an optimal point. I am currently reading through the Bible by greg green right now though, and although he doesnt directly mention the ph of the water, he says 7.0 is what to aim for in soil. So does that mean my water should be at 7.0 ph, just neutral, what are all your thoughts on ph levels for the water? what do you fellas think.
If you're growing in soil you should be watering pretty neutral (7.0) depending on it's ph.. Soil ph should range from 6.5 - 7.0 with 6.5 being the sweet spot. As long as you're not over feeding them you shouldn't have any thing to be worried about.. If you're talking hydroponics then you have to be alot more precise - Wanna stay between 5.5-6.3, with 5.8 being the sweet spot. -Dro
Garynever, But, what may happen over time as a result of natural processes and feeding with fertilizer is that your ph can drop. After two months of veg, my ph had dropped to about 5 by the time I bought a ph meter and took my first reading. My tap water is about 7. To help remedy the problem and push the ph back up, I threw a few pounds of crushed coral into the bottom of the bucket where I let my water sit and de-chlorinate usually for a few days. The crushed coral buffered the water and raised the ph to almost 8. I then used this water to water the plants and it was very helpful because molasses (which I add to my nutes) has a tendency to push ph down a bit. My ph ended staying right between 6.5 and 7. Hope this helps. Peace. Jules
Yup. Completely agree. I used to be crazy about ph (I'm a soil grower) and would worry about it and try to get it exactly at 6.5 all the time. After trying many options I found Poland springs distilled water to be perfect right out of the Jug. So have used that since and only check ph when I'm mixing liquid nutrients into my water. And really the stuff I use (General Hydro's Flora series) is almost perfectly PH balanced anyway so it's really not an issue anymore. Just the way I do it. So far great results and one less thing to worry about.
Aghh you guys are amazing thank you, I'll defiantly stop phing so much, and thank you for the info on Poland springs I'm going to look for that cause I was wondering if their was some distilled water I could buy with a low chlorine amount. I always find during my flowering I begin to have lots of pH problems so I'll let you guys know of this fixes it
