I have a commerical sterilized 3 part mixture that contains:- Cococoir, perlite and worm castings/compost.

There has been alot of mixed reviews as to what the ideal PH is for this soil. Some people tell me the range should be similar to hydroponic setup at 5.8-6.2 PH because this soil is considered mostly "inert." But since it contains organic matter, this would mean it ain't strictly an inert medium, so my thinking is the ph should be considered the same for soil, so 6.3-6.8ph.

What I am trying to figure out, is if bacteria end up growing in this medium due to the organic contents, if so then a ph to support the beneficial bacteria may be necessary. My thinking is that hydroponic ph's are lower to avoid any organism accumlating in the liquid, due to higher temps around roots and lack of organic matter.

    Whats your opinion on this?
    Thanks!
