So this shit is just getting back underway. I trashed my last grow just as flowering was kicking in and moved in with my awesome lady. We're kind of settling in so it's time to start my cabinet grow to keep me in weed and off those streets! My lady is cool with a stealth dresser or two, so tonight I'm making some previews of shit I found on craigslist. I have high hopes for a 41" tall, 25" wide, 13" deep dresser I saw for next to nothing (like $15). If it works, I'd take out drawers, ressemble them as a faux front hatch and use it as a flowering chamber. I'm thinking of NFT setup with CFLS. I'll have plants in 3 stages of flowering, 2 plants in each third of the NFT setup. So be shooting for 2 plants harvested every 3 weeks. I'm going to grow out some seeds and keep a bonsai mother or three. It won't be difficult to keep them small and still pull 2 clones every 3 weeks. I imagine as I get excited about some new seeds in the future, I'll rotate out my least favorite or whatever and keep new moms coming. Stinkbud (you can google it) has really nice plans for an aeroponic cloner that I'll try to miniaturize. Currently I have my eye on some AGENT ORANGE from TGA/Subcool as my next purchase. My only seed stock at the moment is a solitary G13 Cheese Fem that I got as a freebie from my last Attitude order. That's it for now. Let the fun begin.
Still no cabinet on hand yet, the craigslist guy fell through. But, I'm now germing my last seed, the G13 Cheese. I'm going to keep that plant as a mother, so I might as well get it started so I can clone asap.
G13 Labs: Cheese germed and sprouted in a 3.5 inch square pot with coco. I was worried it wouldn't sprout because the coco had tap water with chlorine in it, but my fears appear to have been unfounded. I picked up a couple shitty dressers to take apart and make into a clone/mother cab and a flowering cab. I'll post pics when I break them down and rebuild.
Seedling died within 2 weeks. I'm sure it was my fault between cold, sloppy germination and getting knocked out of pot and re-potted. Purchasing new seeds soon to go into my half done dresser cabinets. Strains are eliminated right away if not suitable for 4/sq ft. spacing and 3 ft of vertical room from clone. Also, no super stinky ones, no foxtailing airy buds. Chime in please if you have grow experience with any of the specific strains I mention. I'm particularly interested in structure of the plant and the high (I won't grow anything that couchlocks or puts me to sleep if I can help it). Glad to see you're beginning anew. I honestly wish I had some experience with any of the named strains (and learning to be more respectful of those who do). With the finished product, do you notice a marked difference in the quality or intensity of buzz? Or is it more of a cosmetic effect; by that I mean just a difference in the bouquet/ taste?
Hey buddy, not sure what you mean. I haven't tried any of those strains yet, the breakdown in type of high is just interwebs research and various published accolades for those strains. The type of high I can expect from a strain is vastly important to me, even more than potency and yield. I fucking hate couchlock and losing 2 hours to a heavy body stone.
Was curious of your experience with any named strain (not the ones you're considering) as I've not had access, in my 40 years of smoking, to anything other than seedy dirtweed with no pedigree. I've not had the good fortune to sample anything other than the occasional colorfully named rarity that certainly is nothing more than a label applied by the dealer and not a true strain. The difference that was most striking to me was the cosmetic (how it appealed to the eye, nose, and taste) not a vastly superior buzz. That's what kept me at the shallow end of the pond so to speak; if I had been exposed to something that really stood out, I may have been tempted to wade in deeper. Maybe that's my stumbling block in getting on board with the majority of those posting here who do favor them.
Hey Verne Mr Jerky, the whole idea behind 'named strains' is not so much that one is any better than another (I know you've heard this before), or better than bagseed even, it's all about the probability of getting what you're looking for. Now I love me a mutt (dog), but you never know what you're getting as far as size (if it's a puppy) or temperment, because you have no idea what it's genetic make up is (we're talking real mutt here, not obvious shepherd/collie mixes or the like). Some folks suffer from depression, or melancholy, or whatever and a nice sativa might be just what helps them, whereas the same sativa might send someone with hyperactivity or ptsd right over the edge. I could go on, but that's a pretty good example I think Some folks favor a certain flavor, or stone, and here the difference is like....say you like Hostess Ho-Hos...you buy a Ho-Ho and you know exactly what it tastes like...buy a generic 'look-alike' and you may get what you're looking for, or they may end up in the trash...again, probability. Some breeder's strains are more stable than others. There are ALWAYS going to be variables of course! BUT, your chances of getting what you're looking for are far better if that plant is bred for those traits (or the breed of a dog) than if you get a mutt or plant some bagseed. If you just want a companion (dog) and personality or size isn't important to you mutts are great!! If you're just looking to get high, bagseed'll do it! If you're looking for a particular high, cbd level (for pain) or flavor though, and are willing to pay for it your best chance lies with a named strain (whether bagseed or from purchased seed). What are the chances you're going to plant a seed from a baggie that tastes just like grapefruit and kills your pain? I've smoked some weed in my life and never would have thought it possible until I planted an Iced Grapefruit labeled (and bred) to carry those traits...and it delivered just that. Sorry Verne for the long post...that's ALL I'm gonna say about it, I promise Hope to see some action going in here...miss seein ya around!
Most weed I've ever bought and the bagseed I've grown all had a kind of hybrid mellow stone feel that broadens your mind a bit and some have a crash at the end that I dislike. 2 named seed strains that I harvested and one that an acquaintance harvested had profoundly different effects than the other 80% of weed I've had. Power Plant by Dutch Passion was terrifyingly racy and trippy at the time and triggered a panic attack. But now I really want to try that type of high again to see if my vast experience with weed since then would change my perception of it. Flash Babylon Auto by Samsara had a paralyzing body stone that set in after a half hour and I don't think I was ever awake 2 hours after smoking it. Totally narcotic like a painkiller. I have no desire for that type of high. I wouldn't begrudge someone who passed me a joint that made me squinty eyed and paralyzed, but I don't seek it by any means.. Exodus Cheese by Greenhouse Seeds was an entirely up high. Maybe a tiny bit of body relaxation, but super mind expanding, creative and sensory enhancing beyond any other weed I've had. It's a nice kind of high that I enjoyed, but wish had the full body relaxation of most weed. So now I quest for something with zero couch lock or crash and a non-racy mind expander that lightens my mood and makes me happy. Daytime weed to help my depression symptoms now that I'm off Celexa (woohoo, almost 2 months!). Oh and it must meet my requirements for plant size/structure/stench while in flowering (given that I'll be in a 3ft cabinet now directly above my landlords bedroom). Once I've found a strain that meets those needs, I would keep questing for one that had an amazing flavor as well, but that's a cosmetic thing that isn't a priority (Exodus Cheese (a skunk phenotype) had a brilliant floral quality on exhale that I've never experienced prior).
Unless you hate the taste of grapefruit, you might want to try the Female Seeds Iced Grapefruit Verne. I'm not real knowledgeable about strains, but I can tell you it's one of those 'happy' highs that allows you to function, but doesn't stop you sleeping if you want to either. No couch lock, no crash, and she was a pleasure to grow. Frosty as HECK....I've never seen a frostier plant. You could even forgo a carbon filter because she smells citrusy...no one would ever guess you were growing weed. Seeds were reasonable, fem, and available in single seeds (I bought 2). Just a thought...
