I am getting ready to mix my soil for my 5 gallon buckets. The only Perlite I have found is some Perlite from Lowes that is made by Miracle Grow. Will this work Ok or should I try to find another brand of Perlite??
Also, is it possible to rinse off the miracle grow chemicals off of the Perlite? Is Vermiculite as good as Perlite?
No, vermiculite is not the same and I've avoided it for years. It is just too water retentive. I would not use it at all. IDK about the MG perlite. But those little bags at HD or Lowes will eat you up. Look around for a Landscape or Garden supply store. I get the 4 CuFt bags of perlite for ~$17. This is 30 gallons vs 2 gallons at HD/Lowes. It is not nuted. Wet

Did you mean the cost of the perlite being from Lowes and costing 5 bucks a bag OR were you talking about the mirical grow fertilzers that are in the Perlite????
omg. just use the mg perlite, its not the best. but it is in no way bad. thats what i use and it works fine thats whats it is made for. they are 5$ a bag at walmart. use it.
