Perlite Cup Wick

Discussion in 'Growing Organic Marijuana' started by Henry Jekyll, May 27, 2013.

  1. I'm looking to make wick systems from two five gallon home depot buckets one inside the other, with the second one suspended with its bottom about half its height from the other one's bottom. Could I use a can full of perlite sitting in the water reaching up to the soil in the second bucket as a wick?

  2. I see what you're trying to do is create a larger reservoir for your SIP container. Good idea but the issue is this: the given amount of water in a standard bucket SIP is seemingly just enough to saturate the soil but only retain so much water for a given period of time. Increasing the size of the reservoir would increase the amount of water and also create a longer time period that's necessary to refill. But if the water sits for too long it'll quickly go anaerobic and potentially be extremely dangerous for your plants.

Try looking into building a system like this. It would give you much much more than a few gallons of water for your reserve and at the same time you can easily add an air stone into the larger reserve tank to keep it aerobic.

  5. Find a new hobby lol. The last SIP harvest I made was nice and full. I watered during flowering a total of four times lol.

  6. Amen braddah! You'll find yourself getting excited about compost, worms, microbiology, organic elements native to your world, etc... It's just a minor footprint down a long and harmonious journey.
