Tampa's sheriff's department has cleared out a local prison of all it's inmates for the possible arrests of protesters for next weeks RNC. Having a peaceful protest is the only way to win the battle that is the protest. Peaceful sit ins and chanting is what I support. That how you win the battle, never by losing control of your emotions and resorting to anger and violence. When that happens the protesters lose and there adversaries win. On the other hand, I've read a story or two about a few riot agitators (many of a conspiracy as to their real identities, ie off duty cops or hired thugs) posing as protesters to begin the violence so arrests can be made and the protest be broken up. What ever the case may be let's all hope and pray next week's protests go off without any bullshit and that prison remains empty.
How many Jews were saved in WW2 due to marching? Peaceful protest works against peaceful opposition. The US govt is not peaceful opposition.
If someone is marching on you you have every right to defend yourself. Those days the Jews suffered all those years ago are probably not going to repeat themselves next week at the RNC. Now are you saying the only way to see positive change is to resort violence? If so, I disagree completely, but again it's obvious everyone has a right to defend themselves.
When you have a group of people armed with firearms and no fear of using them, and the opposing group is armed with cardboard signs and a camera phone, the guys with the guns are going to win every time. Until some other guys with guns come from somewhere else to save the day. WW2. Who do you think is really going to try to help the US citizens? Who will get across either ocean to help? The USAF will put a stop to that quickly. So our only option is the Mexican cartels. Good luck getting their help. It doesn't have to repeat itself next week. It repeats itself every day. US citizens are beat and killed every day by police. Just because they aren't as fast as the Nazi's doesn't lessen the brutality. In fact, it increases the brutality, because people brush it off. It's easier to disregard a person being shot once a week for a month than 4 guys shot in the same day.
I'm talking about protests and from the sounds of it you're talking about the Gov't coming for the American people, raiding their homes, work places, etc. You know much like Nazi Germany, but America has not reached that point yet so there is no need for violence at any protest. Protests are not supposed to be violent and in the USA once a protester resorts to such tactics they will be detained and their voice silenced. As far as the Feds and local police and their guns, well many Americans have guns too, and that's why the Fed Gov't would love to see gun rights restricted more and more. But again, this about protesting and there is NO need to be violent while protesting the RNC.
Have you watched any Occupy protest footage? There was a ton of violence from the police in various cities across the U.S. and very little violence on behalf of the protesters. And since Occupy has begun, what exactly have they achieved? Because the gov't side put more restrictions on where you are allowed to exercise your free speech, have made it so you need a PERMIT to protest, shot people with tear gas cans in the head, etc. Gov't is winning. Who won at Kent State?
^ I gotta agree with lilro. People have been protesting for 'smaller' or more 'humane' government policies for generations and government has only gotten bigger and more oppressive. I'm not condoning violence but I am agreeing that cardboard signs ain't the solution. Protests are short-sighted. From what I remember the National Guard's bullets won at Kent State...but I'm no history buff.
