People who hit dogs.

  1. What does Grasscity think about people who hit their dogs? I've had several 'confrontations' with people who i see smack their dogs, quite hard, and try my best to relate to them why i think it's wrong.

However, today, I was at the dog park, with my little Eskimoand I took note of one woman in particular who had three dogs with her. The majority of her time was spent on a bench, yelling at them because they were playing rough with one another, and some other dogs. As one family was trying to get their dog to leave with them, one of hers decided to playfully chase after it.

she yelled some more, and eventually got up, took hold of her dog who immedietely rolled over, and slapped it on the ribcage. I saw this, and got up from where i was sitting. I walked over to her and started yelling "what the hell are you hitting your dog for?"

She then proceeded to get all up in my face about how it's "her dog" and to mind my own business. I told her when she hits a dog in public, it becomes my business. I then tried to get it through her thick head why it's wrong to hit dogs, especially since hers was a pitbull.

But i don't think I got through to this impertinent sow, with her all-encompassing knowledge of how to treat animals. after a heated exchange, she took her three dogs and left.

I don't really know how to feel about all this. From the way she was acting, that poor dog probably gets the shit kicked out of it at home. I always have, and always will make a big deal about people hitting their dogs and children.

what does Grasscity think about all this?

  2. Anybody who abuses their pet is just a stupid piece of shit. It's an animal... It's supposed to be your always loving companion. Not something that you hit when you don't like what it does.

Why have pets if they make you angry? I never understood that...

  3. Only in very limited context is it apppropriate to 'hit' your dog. Be forceful; you are the alpha. But that doesn't mean violence.

    And with children, ineffective.

  4. I have never once felt any anger or violence to either of my pets,

Pets are there for you when you are angry, not there for you to hit

  5. Mike Vick.

    Had to say it.

  6. ^^^ That.

She smacked the dog one time , and you made it your business ?

    I
mean, yeah, If she picks up a heavy stick and starts beating the dog half to death, then yeah, say something, other wise, mind your own fucking business ,and stay out of people's shit.

I have hit my dog before, and If someone had the nerve to say something to me, we would have problems...

You assumed to know the situation?

I have a large mixed male breed , he doesnt repond to training very well, even reward based training , but he responds well to light physical reprimands...

I would be livid If I reprimanded my dog , and someone accused me of hitting him, or said something to me about it.

Now, beating a dog, or abusing a dog or animal is not ok... but I think you were completely in the wrong in this situation.

Doesnt sound like the dog howled , or was crying for help, was there blood, I doubt it....

    Move on.

PS: My dog is the most gentle loving creature Ive ever seen....

  7. I've hit my cats in the past. They aren't scared of me at all. One follows me everywhere I go.

A quick smack to stop the dog from misbehaving is ok IMO. Not hard enough to hurt it or make it scared of you, but hard enough to shock it so that it knows what it was doing is unacceptable.

I don't remember the last time I hit one of my cats. They don't get into too much trouble, but when they do all I have to do is raise my voice and they'll stop.

  8. Hey he had a breakout season! That means he's not a bad guy... right?

  9. Just be alpha as fuck, problem solved.

If a dog is about to attack my though I'm going to stick my fist down it's throat.

  10. My dad used to roll up a newspaper, tap them lightly on the nose with it, and yell no! really loud in Hebrew at our dogs.

After a while, all we had to do was roll up a newspaper and they'd sit down and chill out. All you need is a little patience with them. They're just acting on instinct. It's up to you to fix that, without being abusive.

  11. dogs are the shit, no need to hit dogs, they act up because of how theyre raised and how their owners treat them/// dogs should be allowed to bite their owners when they forget to feed them or give em water

  12. Some of you could use a little Ceasar Millan in your lives.

  13. hitting animals is bad, mkay?

  14. I slap my dog and say no very loudly when she does something bad, not nearly enough to hurt her, but it gets the point across.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with it.

  15. this wasn't just a light smack on the ass to get it to stop what it was doing, this was clearly an act of retribution for not listening. the dog immedietely rolled over to submit, and the sound of her smacking this dog sounded like somebody clapping.

  16. mmmmmmmmmmm hot dogs

  17. what about chickens...

Unfortunately there are animals that are neglected, feral and unstable. When I said I would stick my fist down it's throat it's so it cannot bite you. Stick your fist down your throat and try to bite down? Not easy, eh?

However no matter what pet I own I will have dominance. They will naturally challenge you and as an animal myself I will assert myself. Not harm it or abuse, just playfully dominate it. Almost like a puppy would to another. You can wrestle down a dog and still be best friends but that is simply the relationship with my extremely alpha dog. I wouldn't do this to beta or a pet that is not my own. We have a mutual understanding and he can challenge that at any time.

  20. well then she was probably in the wrong then....., but I still think you should have minded your own biz...
