  1. Hey guys, i wanted to hear some opinions from blades that live in the south about the terrible drought you guys are having. Is it as bad as the media is making it out to be???

That pic is amazing to me. Thought appreciated, peace.

  2. It's ridiculously bad. We are somewhere around 70 days of water left in Lake Lanier, the main resivour for metro atlanta. My environmental science teacher (who is on the water legislation board for the city of atlanta) has already told all his classes to start buying 5 gallons of water everytime we go to the grocery store, just in case we run out. It's that bad.

  3. wow, sounds really terrible. What is the plan for the state if this happens? Does your forecast call for enough rain to bring things back to normal? Can the conclusion of this be the loss of an entire state and casue massive relocation? Its just terrible...

  4. There is and has never been a plan. There is no forecast for rain in the future, only cold. The hurricane season has been literally non-existant, and there is less than a month left in it. Basically, we're screwed. The worst thing in my opinion is that businesses like car washes and pressure washing are still allowwed to use as much water as they need, unregulated. I don't know what is going to happen if the tap runs dry...

  5. I have barely seen anything or heard that much talk about it on tv or in conversations. It's really weird actually now that I think about it, I hear very little talk about it. At least what I am thinking is that it is alot worse then what the media here in Georgia is portraying. Seems like most people don't think there is a chance that a metropolis will possibly run almost dry of water.

  6. is it true that there is a river or lake in georgia that flushes tons of fresh water to save mussels in the ocean? Because the mussel is an endangered species.

  7. are you joking? car washes have been shut down all over town. haha this one girl at my school called the cops on my school for using the sprinklers on our football field

  8. Yes, it's true. However, the Army Corp of Engineers admitted (once it had affected wayyyy too much) that they had miscalculated how much water the mussels required to live. This is one big reason we are in trouble at the moment. They recalculated the required flow, and readjusted accordingly. This will not save us though. We must have rain.

To the guy who responded to the car wash issue, I'm not sure where you live- your city could have different regulations, however in Alpharetta/Roswell, nothing has shut down yet, business has just slowed because it's cold. Thanks for letting me know, though, it makes me feel better to know others in GA realize what a huge disaster this could be. It's comforting to know not everyone is a moron.

  9. im an hour north of atlanta, its soooooo effin dry here, if we dont get ain we ARE in serious shit

  10. I was talking to someone from the EPA last week, she said it's much worse than the
public's being told. But she couldn't tell me why we're simply not told the truth :confused:

  11. thats actualy where im at. my friend worked at one that got shut down..its not all of them just some i guess..either way its retarded that most are still open
    and to the muscle situation:
Humans>muscles if some die so that we have water for 10-20 more days i am perfectly fine with that

  12. It's this attitude in general that leads to the problem in the first place. had we not dumped tons of crap into the atmosphere the shortage wouldn't be so bad. Had we not allowed so many people to build so much city in one place it wouldn't be so bad. If we had always had good water use guidelines and restrictions it wouldn't be so bad. If all of those things had happened there wouldn't even be a problem at all. EVERYTHING is important, just cause we don't know why yet, or because its going to happen at so far off time doesn't make it any less true. what if we find out in 50 years those muscles have a gene that when added to a new drug cures cancer? do we need to have a reason to not commit genocide? if so, why?
Us Americans really need to look at our resources from a national or even better a global standpoint. its not that there isn't enough water. it is that there isn't enough water near you. theres an entire gulf full of the stuff once the salt is taken out (which is expensive but perfectly possible) anyone got a GOOD reason we don't have thousands of solar powered desalinization plants other than cost?
Also don't take this as me not caring about the people. but fact is being selfish and only thinking about the benefit of people has lead to the problem. Any real solution must begin with us accepting that with the power to alter our environment we must exercise the responsibility to do only for the good of the planet as a whole, not just for our species and certainly not just for one country, state or city.

  13. Drought? Where? I live in Georgia (St. Simons Island to be exact) and I haven't noticed a drought at all... I know it hasn't rained in a while though. (1 month or so)

  14. Do you ever read atlanta news? It's on the front page like everyday?

  15. Why would I read that? I read the Brunswick News and all that's on the front page is gang shootings and missing children.

But from a general view, no, the drought hasn't effected where I live (south east GA) that much at all.

  16. you are on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, what do you expect?

but yeah, in Atlanta shit is getting really bad.

supposedly Lake Lanier could be dry sometime in December.
