There was a bill introduced on June 29th in the PA House of Representatives that, if passed, will protect the right of breastfeeding mothers to breastfeed in public. (I know there aren't a lot of breastfeeding mothers here. I may be the only one, but this is an important bill that needs to be passed.) Please write to your local state representative asking them to vote yes on this bill!!! Here's the link to the bill (House Bill 1822 P.N. 2424) If you don't know who your local Representative is, you can search by Zip code or county here. And if you like, here's a form letter you can send. Thanks for your help, guys and gals
that's mad, so it's illegill to breastfeed in America as a whole or just PA?.........it's legal here, and if you refuse to admit a breastfeeding woman to your premises or ask one to leave YOU will be the one on the wrong side of the law..........it's a big thing here, has been pushed by Doctors for years about the long term benefits to the child if breast fed...............Peace out............Sid
holy crap, i can't believe something like that is in danger of passing! i'm in Florida, and I think it's legal here, and i assume/hope it will stay that way. my mom is a lactation consultant, she'll be disappointed we are trying to pass laws like this
Well, right now it's not technically illegal, but since there's no specific protection in Pennsylvania, shop owners and the like can ask a nursing mother to leave the store, cover up, or even ask her nurse in the bathroom (yuck). The city of Philadelphia is the only place in Pennsylvania with any kind of law on the books specifically stating that nursing mothers can't be charged with "indecent exposure". Here's a list of states that already offer protection. http://www.lalecheleague.org/LawBills.html
I will definitely support all the mothers out there. My wife and I just had our first child on June 29, 2005. My wife does breastfeed. We will support you every step of the way.
FUCKIN RIGHT! I knew Philly had to have at least one good law, lol. When is it scheduled to go to vote? I promise I'll write a letter, though... Probably sometime tomorrow. I have off of work, and get to get some shit done for a change, LOL!
