I posted about this last week and i guess some A-hole deleted it somebody was giving me some good info about this to well heres the story. Last week i smoked with a friend i only took one hit and had a panic attack that lasted about 2 minutes. Im 20 and have never had anxiety or a panic attack in my life. Im also a seasoned stoner. So needless to say this scared the shit out of me but since i was able to control it i decided to smoke a bowl by myself the following night. BIG MISTAKE about 5 minutes into my high my mind started to race with terrifying thoughts like god didn't exist and we where all monkeys living on a huge ball with no direction. Yet it seemed saten did exist and i was going to die. I thought about never seeing my family or friends again and just crazy thoughts of the afterlife made my heart race. The only way i could maintain any control was to keep repeating to myself "Panic attacks aren't real panic attacks can't hurt me". Over & over i eventually freaked out to the point and called my dad ( who is also a seasoned toker). He kept me semi calm and i ended up on my exercise bike doing curls for an hour at 1.30 AM. I love smoking weed but theres no way i can enjoy my high with these bull sh$t panic attacks. Is there any hope for me?
Ok if you want my advice I'm going to start by saying the bolded and underlined part are pretty much true... Secondly this happens to everyone atleast once and it will pass... I promise and I know this for a fact because I have been in your shoes.. Next time this happens just try to take deep breaths and do something that occupies your full mind capacity.. Sitting and dwelling your thoughts is what is causing panic to ensue... Just keep your mind occupied and it wont happen... Cheers and I hope things work out..
How long have you been smoking? It might be because of having a low tolerance if you haven't been smoking that long, loads of people freak themselves out with low tolerances. If you have a tolerance I'm not entirely sure. Good luck with whatever it is though, man
Yes there is hope....go to your doctor and explain your panic attacks. Stop smoking cannabis until you find out what your issues are...
Very good advice, But I'd say just because we can prove science and evolution doesn't mean there is no afterlife as we cannot disprove it. Plus faith takes more heart than fact. Besides we're digressing now. It's true, it happens to us all from time to time. For me it was when I got A LOT higher than I expected and was on my todd. Deep breaths are correct, Remember to control your breathing, panic attacks are an odd beast and the real problem lies in the fact that you begin to vent off too much CO2 and this upsets the acidity of your blood causing tingling and odd sensations which make it a lot worse as you begin to feel odd. Some people suggest breathing into a paper bag, this is known to work but now at work we're not allowed to suggest it as some people carried on until they passed out so if somebody else suggests it or you decide to try it, don't forget to breath air haha. As a health care professional I can tell you what they'll say. "Its the drug, stop smoking it" Because it clearly is happening when high so even my diagnosis would be such but as a long term toker my advise will differ I agree with Zepp though. Keep your mind occupied. You say your a seasoned toker so you're clearly experienced and I don't want to insult your intelligence but here's my advice; Try smoking less. If you're ok after this, try a bit more. Keep this up until you find the limit and stay under it. Possibly avoid edibles as they make dosage control harder.
^^^But why continue to do something if you feel it will cause some sort of uncontrollable psychosis? I'm not a "health care professional" yet I know enough through common sense that if something that is supposed to be pleasurable causes me distress it is best to avoid that activity....
Thanks guys theres alot of good advice on here. As for tolerance it was very high so much that i had ben cutting back to 1 bowl a day trying to slowly get off to drop my tolerance. Even though i smoked i wasn't high when i had the panic attacks it just felt like a whole other drug i compare it to a k2 trip. Very scary.
My advise is based on professional knowledge and experience. If you would like me to tell you the same thing as every doctor you see professionally I certainly can do but I'm allowing him to make his own choice by offering a course that forces you to find the root cause. OP asked if there was any hope, I was offering a way to be sure. Clearly if you have a panic attack EVERY time you stop but you cannot be sure without trying it out slowly and in a controlled manor. If he hadn't wanted help and had wanted to stop we would've been reading a very different thread. I've been smoking 11 years now and I have had 2 cannabis related panic attacks in this time, shit happens but you can control it if you know your limits and understand WHY they happen. You may not have been high but the drug was still in your system and my instinct would still be it has something to do with the bud. Have you had anything similar sober? If not its highly likely bud is the cause. You're route of action from here is your choice bro. If you go to a doctor they will tell and haven't had an episode sober they will most certainly tell you its the bud and tell you to stop smoking, but don't forget they are bound by patient confidentiality and you're entitled to make your own life choices so do not let this put you off seeking advise in person. If you do have these attacks sober, definitely see your doctor. My advise though would remain the same, if you would like to keep smoking SMALL amounts to find your limit. Perhaps a complete t-break for a while before though and ease back into it as above. Hope this helps bro.

Only question I'm gonna ask: Why were you so terrified by the thought that God might not exist/we evolved from monkeys? If you really believe in God, you've probably heard that a million times. But since you were high, it was freaky?

But a panic attack sober is scary a panic attack high is terrifying to the point of debilitating.
