  1. i was just wondering, this may be a stupid question, but lets say you want a light with a spectrum leaning towards one color, would it be possible to paint a bulb? do they even sell paint thats clear enough and heat resistant enough?.....like i said this may be a stupid question...but i thaught id throw it out there anyways..lol:smoking:

  2. they sell colored lights at the home depot so theres a 6 pack with red, greed, purple, blue i think pink and some other colors i cant remember

If you want to increase the light at one end of the spectrum or the other, you need to add more light at the right wavelength. It is impossible to increase light at any wavelength using a filter of any sort. Filters can only block light. The best of filters have transmission rates of only 80% or so.

To put this in perspective... let's suppose a 2700k bulb has 60% of it's output in the red. You add a red filter to block out other colors, only allowing red to come through.

    26W @ 2700k ~ 1750 lumens

    1750 * 60% = 1050 lumens

    1050 * 80% = 840 lumens

You just wasted at least 910 lumens for no reason at all, and I'm probably being quite generous in my estimates.

    Bottom line...

Red light during veg won't hurt, nor will blue light hurt during flowering. If you're using HID, get HPS or a conversion thingie. If you're using florescent, bulbs are cheap enough to get the right colors for each stage of growth.

BTW, this is why folks also say to use a green light when working on your flowering plants during their dark time. The plants aren't affected by green light, and what little red & blue that comes out is likely comparable to a clear, moonlit night.

  4. yeah i figured it was a stupid question, thx for the answer

There's no such thing as a stupid question, there are only inquisitive idiots, which is better than the idiots who choose to remain ignorant.
