Overwhelming with info.

  1. I have to say this is a great site to get educated on organic growing. There's just so much info, it's kind of overwhelming. The research alot of you do is extraordinary, and very appreciated, at least by me. Problem is, there is so much, and it's all over the place, sometimes I ask a question and it may get over looked.

So I have a few questions, in one little group, that I hope some of you can maybe enlighten me.

I seen a post on cocoa as a fert, I was wondering if anyone had any idea if Carob powder may be as or more beneficial? carob, a chocolate substitute, st. john's bread

    Carob

Also on the bacteria front, would the "mother" in somerthing like apple cider vinegar, braggs amino acid, or maybe kombucha, be worth while using?

  2. I usually steer clear from vinegars. Most people I have heard talk about using them, usually are substituting for a weed killer. Vinegars a byproduct of anaerobic bacteria. I just stay away from it (thus meaning i haven't done major research on it, so i'm not entirely sure, just my opinion)

From the Wikipedia link you posted on kombucha
I would not try using it on my medical plants. I would probably think about going to HomeDepot or Loew's and buying some cheap plants (like pansies or marigolds) and run a test or two with something that has little, if any, value.

I'm disinclined to suggest using it at all given the various acids that the article linked to and after looking at the individual entries on these acids I would be hard-pressed to find any one of them that might be helpful for growing plants. The B-vitamin profile is interesting and probably helpful but there are far easier ways to introduce B-vitamins into your growing process and even this agent is open to discussion/argument among horticulturists.

    RE: Cocoa

I'm almost afraid to ask but here goes: What is it you feel you might accomplish by adding cocoa to a soil mix?

    Just curious as usual.

  4. Thanks for the posts guys, I was just being curious, I probably wouldn't use any of them either, but the bacteria thing just had me wondering.

LD, about the cocoa, isaw this post:

I use carob powber alot for personal health, and after seeing that post, I was curious to see if carob would work too.

I too, am just wanting to find some information, ideas, & comments, that may help me out. I am basically a minimilist, meaning I will always do the minimum to get where I need to be. If it takes more effort than that, it's probably not in the cards fo rme.LOL.
