Overwatering?

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by Dswaggins2, Feb 4, 2021.

  1. Hey first time grower here. Just trying a simple closet grow two plants at the moment. Had a couple questions about overwatering my seedlings and what are some signs that that is happening? Also any recommendations on a water cycle and how often you should water your plants in each stage (seedlings, veg, flower). Thanks everybody!

  2. If the leaves are pointing down or look like they are holding a lot of weight, it’s overwatering. The plant should always look like it’s praying

seedlings should be misted not watered. they shouldnt be watered until veg and have a developed root system even then if the pot is too big watering the pot is unnecessary and can lead to over watering

when i water seedlings i mist 15 to 20 times on both sides of the plants base let that seep then do it again. that will suffice 2ce a day. as they grow its okay to mist 3 or 4 times a day before starting to water. how i tell if a seedling is ready for a mist. i look at the top soil if it looks dry i will gently touch it if it feels dry i move it around slightly. if the soil directly underneath is dry meaning its not compact or darker in color and it also moves fairly easy then its time to mist. when the soils dry roots will stretch out looking for water if you flood your pot without a root system already in place they dont grow and can be suffocated

if you do have to mist more than 2ce a day its okay to let it seep 2ce so you would mist 15 to 20 times 3 times letting it seep each time before misting again however that is more so towards first watering and transplant later seedling stage into veg. the seedling stage last an average of 2 weeks before transitioning into vegetative stage

when they get to veg you can water until runoff 20% or more I normally do 20% for water and like 30% for feed. allowing the runoff aids in no nutrient or salt build up. get a feel how how light the pot is when its dry depending on pot and plant size watering every 2 to 3 days. however other means of determining if its dry are the same as seedlings does it look dry does it feel dry if so does it feel dry about mid finger down if so they are good to water the weight is the best way to tell tho they should pass all those test before you water. be less concerned with underwatering as they bounce back quick. one grow i had all through veg i was so busy the plants leaning over was my sign to water not saying thats ok just letting you know if they become underwatered and are amended fairly quickly you'll be fine.

flower is the same as veg with bigger plants and a full pot of roots you will possibly be feeding and watering more often where in veg may have been 3 days now towards the end of veg and flower they may need water or feed every 2 days as long as you follow the tests you shouldnt have any issues with over watering.

I follow this ppm grow guide may help when you begin feeding
    300-450ppms first part of veg
    500-650ppms second part of veg
    700-950ppms first part of flower
    1,000-1,600ppms second part of flower.
now these number can vary per plant, I've found that these numbers wont toxify your soil. when you get a little more experienced you can play around with the dosage. ppm and ph pens are your best friends in aiding in keeping your plants healthy i will get a run off reading of both on water only days to get a feel for how i need to adjust my next feed ppm and ph wise
