No, I don't believe that. I think its very real and that it will bite us hard when we can't sustain everyone. They way I see it, is that if humans want to survive as a species and avoid extinction or societal collapse, we have no other choice than venture into space, build space habitats or terraform planets (maybe we can start with Mars?).

Us humans are 10,000 times more common than we should be as an animal species in nature, thanks to our farming knowledge and medicine savvy. If we didn't have the knowledge for those (especially farming), there would be about half a million humans on earth today (Luxembourg's population!).

But I found some videos that say overpopulation is a myth and explain why. I thought it would definitely be interesting to think about it (be open minded guys). Imagine if they were right? Here we go:

What's your opinion? Do you call bullshit or they might be right?

  2. Fucking bullshit. That's absolutely ridiculous. I only watched the first video but just because some guy from from the 1700's math was wrong doesn't mean that the entire idea is a "myth".

  3. I don't think its the amount of people. Its the amount of stupid people that is gonna be our demise. There seems to be no shortage of them and lemmings that will follow.

  4. Im not watching those. Sorry, but I already know its total bullshit. If you dont think we are over-populated, then you are clearly ignoring the world around you. Just look at China and India. And its clear none of them are hunters since they know what over-population is.

Just because we havent reached apocalypse yet doesnt mean this is a serious problem

  5. That may come first.

  6. Lmao but seriously, I think our demise will be thanks to our lazy ways. Remember, we are just animals that need to be active, just like we were in the past. Nowadays, most people are lazy (mentally and physically), they wouldn't have a chance in the wild. We have technology to thanks for that, although useful, most people rely too much on them.

After many centuries of human laziness, we will lose our human character and start to resemble machines (maybe with nanobots, that came earlier).

Our laziness? Haha your funny right..
Humans are bound to fail because of greed and vengeance. Our demise is evident based on the human nature. Before technology, there will be war.

  8. Between war, famine, plagues, crime, and the advancement of birth control pills, I don't think this will ever be a problem.

  9. "It would take 8 planet earths to harvest enough food to feed the human populous if using organic cultivation methods."

    -Kevin Kelly

You do the math on what happens if conventional means of food distribution and production fail.

WE ARE @ CRITICAL FUCKING MASS PLANET EARTH.

  10. Case in point.

Stupidity is usually opinion based, unless the person does have a very low IQ. I will agree that people make stupid decisions, but that doesn't constitute most of us are overall "stupid". I think you got some serious insecurities man.

Responding to the original thread, I'm not even watching videos, there are places in the world that are overpopulated, and it is a problem. Anything that tries to deny that I really don't want to watch. I might watch em later on, but I do think humans need to change somehow.

  11. Only thing is how can we privatize the space race efficiently?

  12. why would corporations want to spend billions just to go into space? it's not profitable at the moment.

  13. Overpopulation is a myth and propaganda. The purpose is to get the public behind depopulation efforts.

There are vast amounts of usable land that could easily support billions more than we have now. The entire west of the US is nothing but national parks and open land. It's all under the control of the United Nations.

If you think that the earth is over population then kill yourself first. Don't expect somebody else to die off so that you can live with yourself.

The T in TV does not stand for TRUTH. ;)

  15. I'm starting to think overpopulation might be an exagerated issue. I dont think the problem is overpopulation but rather the distribution of resources. I read somewhere that if you divided 6 billion people into families of 4 and gave them each an acre of land, they could all fit inside the US and have space left.

Can anyone throw around some (over) population statistics?

  16. there is no single thing in all the world that's as out of control as the human population.

it's so far beyond time for people to realise that, that the fact that some still haven't likely means we're too late.

the greatest single thing that people misunderstand about anything related to the human population, though, is that we are not the only living thing in this world. look how much harm we are doing to all else that exists. this world was not made to be inhabited solely by we brief humans, nor all of its purposes and bounty made to serve only our ends. that's the real harm of overpopulation - not just what it will mean for us when we stumble over the cliff, but what it has meant and continues to mean for everything else.

you might think of me as an asshole for saying that and worrying as much about everything that isn't human as I do for all that is human, but I think there have been far too many assholes among us who never even paused to give that notion thought. there is so much more to this good earth than we humans

  17. Well that might be the cause of our downfall short term but my post was assuming humans evolved out of flawed character traits. Sorry I know it doesn't make that much sense but it would take a while to explain.

  18. It's not a myth. The human population, like bacteria, grows at an exponential rate. The time it takes for the population to double will halve every few decades, then every few years. Unless deliberate action is taken to curb the birth rate, overpopulation is a very real future.

  19. We have shows called 16 and pregnant, and you're going to fucking tell me overpopulation is a myth?
