Oven infusion

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by StonerSnake, Feb 26, 2023.

  1. Hello,

I have a question related to the cannabis infusion process after decarbing the bud. Instead of using a double boiler for 3 hours and stirring every so often, would it be more practical and accurate to use the oven instead?

Process would look something like this:
    - Decarb in oven at 240 for 40 minutes
    - Add bud to butter/oil and place back into oven at 200 for 3 hours, stirring every so often
    - Strain as needed, and make your dish

If the double boiler keeps the environment around 200-212 but also poses the risk of running out of water, wouldn't this be a safer method? Additionally, is it truly necessary to go the 3 hours, or has that since changed with new research over the years?

Just trying to keep things simple. Thanks fam

  3. filled with water right?

Would like to stick with oven if time frames remain the same. less space to take up on the countertop yanno

  4. I believe it would work.,I make peanut"budder" by mixing ground bud into the pb and bake it for 20 minutes at 325.,I use 1 gram of bud for each ounce of pb.,It is pretty strong at this ratio so beware.,The bud decarbs as it cooks so it saves that time and gas.,
I haven't done much with oil/butter because everything I read says 3-4 hours .,Only a fellow here does it for only 20 minutes at 220° I believe. Check out Brass an Woods thread . He cooks it on a small hot plate.,Good luck.,

  5. Why would I fill it with water?
    Decarbed buds and coconut oil.

  6. [IMG]
    Decarb 240 F for 40 minutes
    15 grams of Hash-Kief
    3 tablespoons Coconut oil
    1/2 teaspoon Lecithin
    Oven heat 220 F for 20 minutes
    Freeze
    Reheat
    Done.
No you don't need to cook the crap out of it... All that does is make sleeper grade oil.
This stuff will amp you up and keep you awake all night tripping hard.

I read somewhere about a process of sticking the oil/butter in a mason jar and then putting into a crockpot filled with water lol to evenly disperse the heat.

didn’t look much further into that method, you’re right though - straight oil in the crockpot is the way to go with that.

  9. hey brass - thank you for your reply. i saw you post that method on another thread too. So the decarb method remains the same, but the infusion process has changed - which is great.

Very interesting that adjusting the infusion time changes the output effect. Did you discover this yourself through trial and error? Why does longer infusion time create a sleepier high? Is the 20 minute infusion more similar to a regular toke since you say the affect is “amped?” - what about going 60 minutes to introduce some mellowing?

Having the ability to adjust the output high based on infusion time is incredible, which sounds like that’s the case. Have you experimented with a “no heat” infusion method at all, such as stirring the bud in oil every day for a few days or longer?

thanks - curiosity gets me sometimes :)

  10. Curiosity gets me too.,I have been making tinctures since May and have tried all kinds of different ways to get the most out of it.,The easiest easiest so far is the peanut"budder".,.
I have also been working with honey infusion and have made some very potent stuff using tincture to infuse with.
The testing of everything is the hard/best part of it.,.

  11. Most of my Info is second hand via BadKat "Bad Kitty Smiles" I did do a ton of testing 10 years ago when I started cooking up her Oil both decarb and processing. Since I make the same 15 gram batch every time my results are consistent for empirical testing. Most all of it simply confirmed her work but was instructive all the same.

I decarb a bit longer and hotter. I process shorter. Her instructions on degrading the oil comes two ways. Just longer cooking or repeated heat and freezes. 4 or more. Since I grow my own I have control over that end of things too and harvest late as that takes the speedy edge down a notch or two.

I've had a full decade to fine tune how I like my stone / Oil done and streamlined down as far as possible to get as many capsules done in one setting as possible. We travel and at best I'll have a handful of days at the grow before we're off again so I cluster all my capsule making into a day or 3 and hammer out hundreds at once.

  12. @BrassNwood Thank you again for the info. i remember seeing bad kitty around the forums some years ago too. Lots of good methods here - gotta find what works best for you. Time to jump down the research rabbit hole.

@starguy i would be interested to hear more about the honey process you follow if you’re willing to share your method or a link :)

As for the oven infusion method, i just tried it for a recent batch of gummies so we will see how it worked. i did 200 for 40 minutes and stirred halfway.

The gummies came out OK, but that was more so my first time dealing with oil and gelatin - not related to the oven method. will follow up with results after i can get some trials in hehe!

  13. I took 1/2 cup (4oz) of honey and added 1oz. of my tincture which contained aprox 7grams of bud worth of thc.,estimated at 840mg.,
    4oz = 8 tbsp= 24 tsp.,840mg ÷ 8=100+mg.,.840mg ÷ 24= 35mg
Pick your dose carefully because the buzz lasts a long time,.,5-7 hrs for me depending on what I ate with or before it.,
To make the tincture I decarbed the bud.,I make it like tea only with 200 proof ethanol instead of water.,I put bud (1oz) and ethanol 5-6 oz. in a ball jar.,and this in a pot of water for a double boiler.,I bring the ethanol up to 165° and remove from heat.,Let it steep 10 minutes and then strain .,if it makes more than 4oz. l reduce it to 4.,if it's less I add a little back .,I want 4oz of tincture in the end .,makes for easy figuring for dosing.,Good luck.,
