New York City Council votes to ban smoking in parks, on beaches - CNN.com

I quit smoking cigarette's on New Year's Eve. I live in Kansas. I still smoke Cigars usually 2 a day and I use Snus at work. Now you now where I am and my habits. How in the Hell, in America can they ban smoking outside? Not near the entrance of a building, I get that. But a park? In New York you are either near a building or in a park. I mean really?. Do people not understand that car exhaust is MUCH more harmful to you than second hand smoke from a tiny cigarette. New Yorkers really need to wake the hell up. When they ban all cars near parks and beaches then it might make... No. Not even then. This will never be right, nor fair, nor American. Fuck yourself Michael Bloomberg!

  2. meh, i think cigs should be illegal anyways. until they start to regulate the shit that is in them atleast.

its pathetic though that the gov is going to start owning the air we breathe

i still don't get why you can't smoke in bars...that should be up to the owners

That's what I call being part of the problem. You are not a psychonaut in training. You would decide what others can put into their bodies? I mean on this site you say that. Really?

Edit: And you would trust the government to regulate. Take a look at Wall Street or the FDA.

  4. Problem?

  5. people aren't told what is all in cigs, the fact is a lot of people don't know the health risks associated with smoking them. and in the end, as a tax payer, i don't want to see my tax money going to help people that make stupid choices. get it?

  6. One person (or group) deciding what is right for the rest. The "Problem."

As a taxpayer, I don't want my money going to foreign aid. But, I know it is going to happen. Heart Disease, not Cancer is the #1 killer in America. Be mad at Mcdonald's first.

Edit: People don't know Cigarette's will take years off their life? Who are these people and you should tell them.

People who don't know the health risks by now should be culled from the heard anyway.

I've probably paid more in taxes from cigarettes than you have from your income and state taxes combined.

This is bullshit, plain and simple - it's another reason to fine people and make some quick extra cash for the city.

I do get it. I just see it different. I accept you do not agree with me. But maybe I can help move or change one person's mind on the boundaries of personnal freedom. I see it from the perspective that if you are standing on a street corner near stopped traffic you are doing more damage by breathing car exhaust than any chance of second hand smoke from a smoker several feet away. And before you say it. Why would a person smoking be up in your face without a confrontation.
