outdoor pollinating

  1. Hi guys, I grow some plants first year and I decided to pollinate some for seeds. However there are few things, which I´m not sure about, so if you would be so kind and give me some hints, I would appreciate your help a lot!

    1) I know, that pollinating of flower will reduce yield. Still friends of mine weren´t able to explain me...

    - if just some flowerings on plant are pollinated, will it reduce yield on whole plant or just on pollinated flowerings?
    - reducing yield means... lower level of THC on pollinated flower (like 12% instead of 15%) or lower amount of resin (but level of THC sustains - comparing to non-pollinated flower of the same genetic/clone)?

    2) when are flowerings ready (mature) to get pollinated? Are they mature since the very beginning (since first little white hairs appear) or it takes some time till flowerings may be pollinated)?

    3) as plant grows and time goes on, do there appear brand new flowerings still over again or you get all flowerings in the begining and then they just grow bigger? I ask because - if there would be an accident and some pollen spread out of control in the begiining of flowering of plant, does it mean, that whole yield is lost...? :-(

    4) is it right, that you recognize pollinated flowerings because hairs get brown very early (especially on the tips)? Or this is not 100% clear sign, because hairs get brown as flowerings mature as well?
You see... if hairs would get brown because of pollination, it would be very difficult to know, when the harvest time comes... :-(

Thank you very much for your help and answers!

  2. Hi guys, since you´re thinking about what reply or if to give me some precious feedback for my questions at all, I made some pictures of flowering on my plant.

On first you may see nice white hairs, on the second brownies (probably because the flowering has been pollinated few days ago :) And on third picture you may see nice brown hair... It´s strange, do you thing it was pollinated as well? (if yes, it wasn´t me :))

Btw I´ve read recently some articles about pollination cannabis. They´ve said, that your yield on plant is NOT REDUCED BY POLLINATION. Only flowerings, which were pollinated, produce less resin. What do you think guys about this statement? Would you agree?

  3. the best way is to let mother nature do her thing. take a few plants and let them grow away from any other plants you don't want seeds in. one male plant can pollinate a lot of female plants. about your yield question, sure the seeded bud might weigh the same but after you deseed it prior to smoking your going to lose quite a bit of post harvest weight

  4. Well, the pollinated parts will definitely have lower bud yield. They will look big but then all the seeds come out and there ain't much left.
Overall yield may be reduced some due to energy going into the seeds.

In my experience flowers are ready to be pollinated at around 3 to 4 weeks
I am not sure but it seems the really fresh new pistils don't get pollinated right away.

As long as no new pollen is introduced only mature pistils will be pollinated, the buds forming after that will not be pollinated *mostly. It will not pollinate the whole plant from carefully pollinating a small area. Bear in mind pollen floats around allot. If you have some on yah from outside and walk inside around flowering plants without decontaminating, you are likely to get some seeds in places you wouldn't expect. (The drive to reproduce is amazing)

The pollinated pistils will turn brown, but they will also recede all the way into the calyx if you look closely you will see the dimple in the end of the seed where the pistils transported the pollen ovum into the seed.

you can recognize pollinated calyx's by the absence of pistils and the large swollen calyx pods.

    hope that helps.

  5. Hi guys, thank you very much. Yes, you helped me a lot to understand better whole thing. Still, if you would know, I would appreciate few explanations a lot. Thank you!

    - is this right or wrong...?

    1) once female is pollinated... yield lost = less resin in pollinated flowering, but the quality (strength of final "product" - CBD, THC levels etc.) is the same no matter if flowering is or is not pollinated. Y/N ?

    2) only pollinated flowerings on plant loose their qualities/quantities. Non-pollinated flowering keep their full power no matter what. Y/N

    3) if I understand right, even if plant is pollinated, it continues grow new flowerings anyway. Y/N
