hey this is my first marijuana plant i just let it grow at a park in some bushes, it was well hidden and i had it growing there for a few months. i harvested it yesterday, ( i live in australia ) and i noticed there were dead brown spots on the bud that easily came off when i tried to take them off. so i took them off and there was also a white sort of powder looking substance on some of the stems and a tiny bit on the leaves, i just wiped it all off and im letting it dry out now, its been drying for probably about 35 hours now, and i just want to show you some pictures of the bud, it looks quite brown and shitty so i was wondering if its ok to smoke still. i never added fertilizers or anything i let nature do its thing. also if you can have a guess at the strain or something let me know what you think it has a very fruity smell, almost like pineapple at the moment hahaha thanks
The dead brown spots sound a lot like bud rot, especially if they easily came off. The white powder sounds like powder mold. Nice bud though man, looks tasty. IMO, mainly b/c its your only plant, Id say go for it and smoke the unaffected parts.
so will it be safe to smoke once its completely dried out? and will the 'rotted' brown buds be ok to smoke aswell?
Usually, when it's progressed that far, for every visible portion of mold it's safe to assume there is around 5 or 6 times as much 'clean looking' space/bud that is covered by the invisible, highly active spores. If you have entire buds that were completely 100% unaffected, those you could assume are probably somewhat safe. But unless you like month long low-grade lung infections, you should avoid material anywhere near the mold and rot itself. The kind of lung infections you get from smoking moldy bud won't kill you, not usually anyway, but you can't taste or smell much during the time, so it's a heck of a way to ruin the enjoyment of your fresh crop. When this occurs, if you can't bring yourself to throw it out, it's recommended that you make either high temp oils and butters for edibles, or ISO hash. Heat, and high proof alcohol, should render the spores useless.
I cant guaranty anything, and I definitely would not smoke the rotted or moldy parts. Do you have any pics of the brown spots? Im almost positive its bud rot since you said the affected parts easily rub off, but pics would help identify.
