hello everyone, I was hoping for some advice about growing autos outdoors. I am growing low Ryder II. I have had some success but have found that it is quite fragile compared to other strains that I have grown. I have been growing in submerged pots. We recently had a few days of rain and one of my plants died. It had been in flower for almost 2 weeks. When I pulled it out I noticed that it had not grown long roots. Just a small root system. The soil was quite light - Seedling soil. I had used a little liquid fertiliser. The plant was tied down to grow horizontally- for stealth. Does anyone have any ideas about why this plant may have died. Any advice would be welcome. Thank you
I'm not sure what you mean by "submerged pots." I've been growing in soil in fabric pots, and the root system of every plant I've grown so far has been extremely robust. Allowing air to get to the tips of the roots causes them to die off, which is essentially like topping your root system -- it causes root nodes farther back to branch and grow out. My understanding is that hydroponic grows have, by comparison, have a much slower time growing out a root system. This can be compensated for by topping the plants back a couple of nodes (while your plant is temporarily unable to grow out extensive vegetation, it invests its energy in further developing its roots) or just giving it more time, neither of these is very attractive options for a plant on a built-in timer. So, maybe the correct answer is, for faster and/or smaller autos grow them in bags that promote root growth?
