April 8, 1972 A two-alarm fire fills the south tower with billowing smoke. Hydrants nearby do not work. April 4, 1973 The World Trade Center is dedicated. Nine workmen were killed during the construction. Feb. 13, 1975 A fire guts the 11th floor and spreads as to six other floors because adequate fireproofing is not in place.
