  1. Multiple times? It’ll all be stacked on the porch this fall. I dont have the time or energy To do it twice; plus its spread out better to continue drying like it is - imo.

All 10 cords will be stacked on the porch this fall. Good thing its a beefy porch!

  2. Do you leave it outside year round - I’m guessing? Do you wrap it/insulate it at all - or?

Does it produce any fruit, and if so, roughly how much have you seen over the years?

Thats a hardy apple youve got. At -15 I’d have thought they wouldnt make it very well in 20 gallons. Thanks for the input!

  3. My tomato bed needs a fat dose of N this Fall. I’ve had great luck the last dozen years but they’re struggling more than I’d like to see this year. I’m gonna have to hit up my neighbor and Hit him up for a few cartfuls of cow/steer manure.

I’ve got plenty of horse manure going on but that ruminant (Sp?) double stomach deal is so much better for Nitrogen it seems.

I do have a couple cartfuls of Chicken coop bedding tho...

    but thank you!

  6. We got hammered with passing thunderstorms last night, but we needed it. Beans are tall enough to rake in mulch and straw, corn ima give another week for the little ones to grow then finish those too. Gotta pick some suckers off the maters, about to get out of control lol. We're moving along 20200713_060425.jpg 20200713_060442.jpg 20200713_060831.jpg 20200713_060535.jpg 20200713_060633.jpg 20200713_060713.jpg

  7. Hey jerry looking great! I got the opposite issue tomatoes doing great but broccoli got decimated by caterpillars and slugs. Your broccoli always looks prime! You plant em in an area that gets a lot of sun? I planted em in a spot that i thought got decent sun but now im wondering if i shouldve planted em in a sunnier spot cuz they were growing slow before the onslaught of herbivores got to em. Happy growing!

  10. Ya it's outside year round. No insulation of any kind. It's been pretty neglected actually. I only started top dressing it with some compost and EWC this year and even then I've forgotten to water it from time to time.

My winters usually average about 5C but we get several weeks of freezing temps and a foot or so of snow and a few years back we had a good blast of -10 to -15 or a couple weeks.

Looking at the pot again I think it's a 15G. The tree is actually one of those gimmick trees with 5 or 6 different apple varieties grafted onto 1. It should probably have a trellis behind it but I got no room for that.

The fruit is pretty small. Probably only the size of a billiard ball. My dog's the one that gets to reap the spoils. He picks all the low hanging fruit. He broke one of the branches when he got a little aggressive. :)

I get a couple dozen calendula blossoms a day and sometimes twice that. Pick once at 10 and again at 4 or 5. I’ll have a few less plants next year probably lol. I’ll let them go to seed soon probably. The ones around the hugelkultur are getting overrun with squash now

With so many projects going I've been neglecting my veg garden but it's not too terrible.

  13. So I got about 40 cucumbers off 4 plants and got distracted by other projects. I was working in a small space and underestimated the nutrient draw of 3 birdhouse gourd plants. First time trying to grow them. I tried side dressing but they still killed all my cucumber plants. The combination of high heat and high humidity is doing a real number on everything. 20200713_114743.jpg

  15. The hugelkultur is pretty well covered with green now. It’s hard to keep up with the squash runners and keep them from running over the cantaloupe and watermelon entirely. The calendula is getting covered fast

  17. Yes - our vegetable garden is smack dab in the horse pasture so theres no shade ever; full sun all day/every day providing its sunny lol

I really find that providing that “most” plants get steady moisture that they can handle the sun alot better and is Yet another reason I’m such a mulch freak Lol - of course theres plants that prefer shade but generally everything I grow at least just totally digs that full intense bright sun!

    thanks man.

I’m jealous on the tomatoes! I honestly havent made/taken the time to put anything into hours spent in the garden. My own fault. I’m gonna try and whack them hard with some of our hens manure this coming weekend - even tho we’re halfway thru July lol

  18. Beautiful!

Mulch mulch mulch thick thick thick!

It’ll do wonders and especially when you’re having a hard time with moisture - amongst alot of other benefits.
