I have red ones as well. They don't volunteer here, wish they did, but saving seeds is easy too. I always wanted a white one to mix in.
Anybody have any expertise on growing potted fruit trees in an area that experience 0°F during the winter.
Thank you very much! Please don’t hesitate to keep them coming. I like to think we celebrate growing things and life in general in this thread. Damn hippies.
I'm no expert. But, I've successfully grown apples, pears, plums, cherries and peach trees in NY state. But, mine were all in ground, not in pots. Why in pots? Citrus fruits?
I’d think any trees or plants jn general would have a much harder time at survival in containers simply due to the insulative properties of the earth. @Patricia Clemons - Insulation of trees overwintering in general Is something you need to research well. j
I'm sure there are varieties that will grow well in pots. I myself killed an orange tree and a lemon tree grown indoors in pots. At the time I was young and a bit dumber. I was watering with softened water.
It’s missing us again but I’m hoping for some over the next few days. We did okay last weekend but we’re still in a moderate drought. Seems to be sticking closer to the mountains.
That's what my dad said that time when we were stuck on the NYS thruway in 69. We were going to grandma's...not woodstock. I was 11.
Couple garden pics from today. my tomatoes aren’t doing well but everything else is. Hope y’all are having a good weekend. j
You might be able to put them in a cool cellar type area in low light to get them into dormancy and then bring them back out come Spring. Cooler the better. j
10 cords of Ash, Maple and a touch of Birch thats been down well over a year and a half and is baking in the sun all day/every day. Makes me feel good having it all there, split & ready for ignition. j
It's just laying there.... In a pile... I couldn't take it I'd have to stack it Sent with it's not a lie!?
I think they're generally pretty hardy. I've got an apple tree in a 20G pot and it's survived in -15C weather. Had it for 7+ years. They get rootbound so they don't grow any bigger than a certain size and don't produce a whole lot of fruit.
