Organic soil

  1. This is my first organic run and plants are 18 days old so I think I caught it very quick because I look at my plants every day. Took sweeper and removed couple of inches of soil off so got most of what I seen running around, the organic soil does stay moisture then the 50/50 promix and vermiculite I used to use, but I think a couple inches of green sand on top of my soil will take care of the problem, if not will use the Neem meal. The plants do look like they are going to be a good run in the organic soil, time will tell. Thanks for all the information I appreciate it.

  2. Tomorrow I will add the sand and think things will be good after that. Went ahead and removed first node and fan leaves on the 2nd node and topped them so that should be all the stress they will receive until harvest. Shouldn't have anything touching soil now and have room to add amendments later in grow. Screenshot_20210822-145710.png Screenshot_20210822-145722.png Screenshot_20210822-145734.png

  3. The flies that I see around my soil are the gnats you might see around your trash can, so not sure what type they are but did do the potatoes on top of soil and there was no eggs on them but was a few little pest running around, there life span is limited I got green sand on its way with Neem meal and mosquito dunks, my war plan is in action.

  4. Bt is “OK” but the subspecies israelensis is the bomb (fungus gnat wise). That subspecies is the one used in the SUMMIT Mosquito Bits, and is listed as the active ingredient. Fungus gnats are listed on the Instructions For Use. I use 1 tbs lightly sprinkled on the surface and lightly watered in. I DO NOT mix in a gallon jug. Two applications, 7-10 days apart and no more gnats! You can buy this almost anywhere. Your results may vary, but I swear by it.

  5. Gnats mean too much water.

  6. Well I think I took care of the problem, plants are 28 days old today, I did put things on top of my soil, like EWC fish bone meal and green sand Neem meal and a little lime. Like I said this is my first organic grow, I can see I got one plant that looks to be over watered, so will need to water that one different, if I let 7 gallon planter bags feel light then give 1 gallon of water to each planter bag which I get run off. The one plant don't look like it can handle watering like that. But will see how it goes, here's today pictures 28 days old. 7. 1 gallon of water for 7 gallons of soil seems too much to me. I water 1/2 gallon in full flower and still get runoff in my 7 gallon pots.

If I may offer a suggestion: slow down how you are watering. What I mean by that is in the past I used to just dump the water into the soil with a watering can. It always seemed like I’d water a lot but still get runoff and the pots never felt “full.” I now water with a Chapin sprayer set to spray. It takes a little longer but the slow flow of water means the soil has more time to really soak it up.

  8. Yes, I will cut it way back and go slower and see how they perform.

  9. I use 2 liter soda/water bottles with a small hole in the top and bottom to drip water and as you say, to slow the flow.

  10. It's been a rough run for my organic soil mixture run, things went south 30+ days by adding amendments to early started to burn them and stunned growth by the problems, but they are 48 days old now and another 30 + days should have some decent buds on them. But I did start three more alien vs triangle in my regular growing mixture to see how well I can do with them to give the mephisto run a fair shot. Because this run I really hurt them, they should be looking a lot better than they look now, but I will end up with some good buds at the end. 11. Well today they are 55 days old, one will be done couple of weeks before the other two because of the problems I had with this grow. So testing the mephisto autos isn't a fair run for them, but here's the three that's got another 30 days probably of the two at least. And here's three new alien vs triangle 16 days old in my 50/50 promix and vermiculite with dolomite lime and gypsum with 3 parts masterblend. And a Jedi glue that is 17 days old in the fabric pot which is a regular seed, but if it's a female I will use her for a mother plant, and use clones to make my own feminized seeds if she produces nice dense buds. 12. Well the alien vs triangle is 58 days old today, the one plant will be ready in three weeks, other two could be ,6 weeks because all the problems. But here's pictures of the one ready in three weeks looking pretty good, I like the alien vs triangle mephisto buds. 13. Here's the pictures of my alien vs triangle at 18 days old in my organic soil run which I messed up, now here's a picture of alien vs triangle at 19 days old in my other mixture, you can see how much better they are doing, and I think they will yield pretty good, time will tell. 14. Up date on the organic run, 71 days old and had a lot of trouble with it, hats off to you guys that do good growing in it because you need to have your stuff together and know your soil, which I'm sure there's some who hold there's recipes close because it takes time to figure it all out. So you don't just want to give your hard work away that took you years to learn. But I will end up with something from this grow. But I'm going to stick with what works for me. Here's pictures of my organic bud's at 71 days old. And here's pictures of the same plant grown the way I Know how to grow and they are 32 days old today. 15. Looking lovely brosephski. I was watching this dude called td who grows 12 to 16 ft plants outdoors and he supports as much of the plant as possible with reinforcement so the stress on the bracts doesnt affect flower quality and from.what i see in the pics, if you support those budds itll help out.

Didn’t quite get what your pictures are saying. You are saying the Clearsky method works better for you than the “organic” yes?
First pics looked good to me.
Are you going to smoke some before you decide?
My organic grow (first) is amazing, so far. I’m just 2 weeks into flower, so we’ll see.

  17. Yes my method works better for me because that's what I know for inside, thought I would try a organic run and messed it up by over feeding them, but they will still produce some good smoke, but the run I'm doing now will out do my organic grow at least double. But someone on here that grows in organic probably can produce what I'm doing on my second run with no problem in organic soil.

  18. @Clearsky, how are those air pots working out for you. I still have 9 of them in my shed collecting dust. I loved the smaller ones for transplants, they formed beautiful root structure. But, I found the fungus gnats loved all the soil access from the holes in the sides. I haven't used mine in 2-3 years.

  19. They work better than my planter bags, the more oxygen you get to the roots the better the plants grow, also gnats don't seem to be as bad with promix and perlite, they were worse with the organic soil mixture.

  20. It's true that oxygen to the roots is a good thing; however, you can get oxygen to the roots through methods other than the airpot holes. Simply watering your mixture with non-stagnant water into a medium that has good aeration will get oxygen to the roots. Too much water, OTOH, can lead to lack of oxygen and conditions favorable to pests like fungus gnats!
