Soil I have made consists of : 5in1 compost : Cow manure Sheep manure Fowl manure Mushroom compost Fish and Kelp Potash bloom booster Blood and Bone Rock minerals and zeolite I have mixed this compost 1:1 with flushed peat moss , added high phosphorus Bat Guano (0-15-0-0) , added more high nitrogen Blood meal (14-0-0-0) , also added liquid seaweed and Gogo Juice ( a soil pro biotic containing selected microbiology that have fed on kelp , fish , seaweed and Humic acid ) , added dolomite lime to level out the ph ( also contains natural cal/mag ) , I have salt based trace elements but unsure if I should use them in the mix (being non organic) ?? Will mix 1:3 with perlite at potting stage and a cup of vermiculite Plan to use it as a super soil base in my pots and then just a high quality organic potting mix for the rest of the pot . Anything I am missing or would be beneficial to the mix ? Please chime in guys ! Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Your mix looks hot but as long as you stick with the ratios of 1/3 peat, 1/3 compost/ EWC, 1/3 aeration and let it sit for at least a month your good to go .... I would add some High quality EWC if I had it..... and no need to flush the peat just wet it ...
Been cooking for 2 weeks now , can't really feel a lot of heat coming out of it , mix it evey 4 days or so , I found ewc that I have to order , can't get it local , freight is more expensive than the 10kg of ewc !! Definatly stickin to 1:3 ratio , do u think Its best used as a super soil base ?? Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Was told peat blocks have a lot of salt build ups in them ??? Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum mobile app
you are thinking of coco coir, that indeed requires rinsing. peat moss not have salts in it and just needs to get hydrated. yes, but i dont know anything about your salt amendment. if you can get rock dust, preferably basalt then you can use that. you should check out the soil for beginners thread, read the first few pages and post your questions there. that thread gets a lot of traffic and you are more likely to get faster responses that way. oh and if castings are expensive for you to ship just stick with compost for building your soil.
Yeah ewc is Abit pricey for me , I will grab some for my next run to see the differences , I will move future questions to the beginners guide , sorry only just getting the jist if this app , only new here The salt trace elements are made by manutec , analysis is as follows : Sulfur a sulphate 6.29 Calcium as corbonate 10.00 Magnesium as sulphate 3.62 Manganese as sulphate 2.88 Iron as chelate 2.73 Copper as sulphate 1.25 Zinc as sulphate 1.00 Boron as borate 0.09 Molybdenum as molybdate 0.0038 My Concern is I'm using leds and have read about cal/mg problems Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Lol , yeah haven't seen any deficiencies yet ! Ain't broken don't fix it aye !! Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Super soil base lol. Just mix it together and out your plant in it, nobody does that silly base layering thing, not even the genius who made the idea popular oh so many moons ago, Subschool.
Subfool Subtool Scrubfool I could come up with a buncha ones but its early. On a Saturday. Btw, welcome back in your what, third edition lol. Sent from my SM-N920P using Grasscity Forum mobile app

Actually found bagged compost yesterday containing 40% vermicompost (castings) and local $8 a 25 ltr bag , think I might switch to this compost instead of the manure based one Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Unfortunately a lot of people (myself included) began their organic journey researching 'supersoil' and came up with subcool's oldschool method. Just like everything worth anything, it evolved from that very basic idea into something better. IMO it is really best to follow old inthegarden's initial thread about basic soil mix to get started and then read thru the no till thread and the sst thread. It is a lot of research for sure, and a lot of lets say advancing information but it is well worth it. Also, that agnescootlumperdiggity guy has really brought a wealth of information to our wondrous community. I read in another thread somebody called his delivery 'arrogant' and I choked on my cheerios laughing. Calling too much information in a post, that uses the correct terminology, arrogant just because the words are hard to pronounce was super funny.
People don't understand something and immediately turn aggressive towards the situation , I find that hilarious also , have started reading the no till revisited thread , I have my plant in 1:3 shit potting mix : compost : perlite but I never let it cook I have been giving it teas to get the process started the plant doesn't seem to be lacking just red stems on the leaves I'm concerned about , and it's about 2 - 2 1/2 months old and only 9 inches tall but bushy , I sprouted it in an old pot a palm was in with a lot of dirt no airration , transplanted to current mix and it's going better , will not letting it cook be a problem , and what about the red stems on the leaves ? Was pretty well decomposed bag compost ( pretty fine ) smells like rainforest soil Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum mobile app
dont worry about red stems. keep applying malted barely powder as stated in the no-till thread, neem and kelp teas, coconut water...worms..mulch...your soil will get better in time.
