The OMMA2 initiative is Measure #33 on the November 2, 2004 general election ballot. Measure 33 will create a system of nonprofit, state-regulated medical marijuana dispensaries so that qualified patients can safely and securely get access to the medicine they need.

The OMMA2 initiative, to create a system of state-regulated nonprofit medical marijuana dispensaries in Oregon, is Measure #33 on the November 2, 2004 general election ballot.

OMMA2, named after the original Oregon Medical Marijuana Act passed by voters in 1998, will establish a regulated supply system for medical marijuana patients. The Health Division of the Oregon Department of Human Services will regulate nonprofit dispensaries, which could legally sell medical marijuana products to qualified patients. Fees paid by the dispensaries would fund the program and medical marijuana research.

Measure #33 would increase the amount of marijuana patients can possess and make it easier for patients to qualify for the program. Oregon currently has over 9,000 registered patients who were qualified by over 1,300 Oregon physicians.

The biggest problem with OMMA is that patients who are too sick to grow their own marijuana have no place to buy it legally. Under the current law, patients much grow the marijuana themselves or find a caregiver willing to give them marijuana for free. Dispensaries would be subject to strict regulation including quarterly financial reporting and inspections.

Thanks to everyone for their support. Because of you, OMMA2 has made it this far. With your help, OMMA2 will become law. Stay informed, get registered, and vote in November.
