Hello Everyone! An opossum (I'll call him a possum from now on) has been coming to my porch and taking my bong bowl out of the bong, carrying it under the covered chairs, and licking it. Has this happened to anyone else or have you ever heard of such a thing? I asked the people at the pot shop and they've never heard of it and thought I was making it up. I set up a camera last night to confirm it and saw him doing it. It's a baby possum, a young one. He comes to the porch a few times a night. I live in Southern California, Ventura County. The camera footage I have is a bit blurry so I'm going to set up a couple cameras today and get some good footage of him doing it. It started last week when I forgot and left my bong outside on the porch, I usually take it in. When I woke up, the bowl had been removed from the bong. No water was spilled and nothing looked out of place but I found the bowl about eight feet away on the porch and it appeared to have been licked clean. There was about three days of resin in the bowl. I usually clean the bowl once a week. The bowl had a handle on it so it could not have rolled. The next night, I took my bong inside at night and when the possum came, it looked around for the bong, couldn't find it and then sat on my chair and rolled around rubbing it's face like a cat. It did this for a full fifteen minutes. When it left the chair, it left a wet spot. It peed on the chair. Very strange behavior. ( I cleaned the chair!) Last night, I left it out on purpose and put a camera on it. The possum came and took the bowl out, and carried it under the chairs (there's a cover on them so the area below is completely closed off). This morning, I found the bowl under the chair and licked clean. My plan tonight is to set up better cameras to get good footage of him doing it.
I hope you're sterilizing it before using it? I would just bring my bong inside because animals mouths are very dirty. I love opossums and I don't consider them pests but I also I don't want it's mouth to be anywhere near anything that goes in my body. Just a personal preference!
Animals have been known to develop habits just like people. There is a mushroom that grows near a population of reindeer and the deer eat them knowing they are the magic kind. Monkeys on a resort island steal the tourist drinks. Even one man's dog took to licking a poisonous toad to get high. When fruit falls to the ground it ferments. Bees eat the sugar off of the fruit and get drunk. When they fly back to the hive, the worker bee is kicked out of the hive until they sober up. It was hilarious to see the bees flying straight into the hive like a drunk driver.
I had the camera set up last night but all it did was sniff it, take a lick or two, and then wander off. I only smoked one bowl in it so maybe there wasn't enough residue. A bunny also came by and sniffed it but didn't lick it or touch it. I cleaned it out again and I'll smoke in it for a few days this time to build up a good coating and then leave it out overnight with a camera on it.
