Hey all! I came across this: and I wanted your opinions on it. I'm doing 1 or 2 plant personal minigrows with lst, scrog, etc. Is 50 Watt High Pressure Sodium enough light? thnx for any feedback
yea they are good but they are meant for very small plants unless you work out a way to lst your plant. If you get a small breed like an indica then i would say try it out but if your wanting to get some good yeilds then i would invest your money in a bigger grow cabinet.
What about this one http://cgi.ebay.com/Secret-Herb-PC-...ryZ20546QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Its relatively larger
the problem with the taller one is that you can't move the lights where you want to. that wouldn't be an issue with higher output lights, but cfls have limited penetrating power so normally you need to situate them all around the plant.
I really like the taller one, thnx for the link. But you have a point about the lights...I'm going to ask the seller if there is anyway to supplement the lighting. Any other thoughts out there? EDIT: Hmmm, doesnt seem to come with a fan...wouldn't it be hard to maintain proper temp and co2 levels without it?
You can take the lights out and fix them around the plants even though they arent suppose to move, you just have to get some copper wireing and electrical tape, then just open it up, remove the lights and clip the at 1 point only, then strip and connect the new wire, then find your own way that suits your plants needs on how to hang them, but you can cut some wire and hang them with some hooks or w/e, ive seen it done before
Why would you even consider buying one of those? Are you so un-hnady you couldn't make that in an afternoon? Those server cases are thrown away all the time and most small businesses have them sitting unused waiting to be thrown out or for someone to take them- I'm sure you could easilly get one free. It would already probably have a power supply (just short black to green wire on main connector) to run the fans that are already in there for ventilation. Pick up a few CFLs at lowe's or wal mart (DONT BUY CFLs FROM HOME DEPOT, the n:vision 27ws I bought from them melted!), some type of sockets for them (you could use a simple outlet to socket adapter and screw bulbs right into a power strip) , cover the inside in foil tape or something reflective and get a container to start growing in. Total cost: 2-3 100w equivalent (27 actual watt) CFLs - $20 socket and plug assembly with a timer - $10 PC Case- if not free you can get a really nice one with a bunch of 120mm fans for $70 or less to fit your needs with digital temperature probes all built in. For $30 more you could go fully hydroponic with a bubbler system an aquarium pump, container, air stones, net pots, and some nutrients can be had for that price. it amazes me that people would pay $300 for someone else to make one of these when a 10 year old could make one. put down the aluminum foil pipe and try doing something yourself.
[quote name='Sir Jman']Why would you even consider buying one of those? Are you so un-hnady you couldn't make that in an afternoon? I understand, but this thread was not asking "should I buy this or should I build myself?", which is the question you answered. As a frequent reader of these forums, I am aware of the option to build one myself. My question was about the specs of this particular set up. If you don't like the question, feel free not to answer it. --> the seller wrote back and explained that it has intake and out fans, and that the lights are on magnets and can be repositioned easily. Thanks for everyone's imput!
O yeah, tight shizzy man, i MIGHT get one later on down the road as a cloner till they get to big, then transplant
I completely agree with you. Why spend so much money on one of those when you can build one for much less. It'd be fun too.
