So this is my first grow. Setup is 2x4x5 tent 4x mars hydro 300, 4 inch inline fan, 2x 10 gal fabric bags. No-till following the soil recipe in one of the forums here. Cover crop is red clover The plan was growing 2 Granddaddy Purple plants and see how it goes. I planted the seeds (straight in the 10 gal pots, seemed simpler to me...) on Friday the 25th. I thought both seeds had sprouted but today (Wednesday the 30th) I noticed only one had sprouted. I can see the first set of leave coming out. The other pot, It must have been a clover sprout near where I planted my seed. How long do I wait to sprout another seed? Is it a bad thing if they are not sprouted at the same time? will I run into trouble during veg/flower if one is say a week or two behind? What about having two strains in the same tent? I did 2xGDP because it seemed simpler that way, but I have two White Widow seeds also. If my second GDP doesn't sprout, I'm tempted to do one WW so I can have both, because I'm not sure I can do another batch this winter. Anything wrong with having two different strains that didn't sprout at the same time? I can also live with doing just one plant if I am asking for trouble with the other options. Thanks!
Nothing wrong with growing multiple strains, even plants of the same strain can finish flowering at different times. Just be patient with the one that didn't sprout yet.
Thanks, I'll wait a couple of days in case I have a "late sprouter". I was going to wait a couple days, but I figured I'd ask the questions ahead of time so as to plan it out. I still have 3 GDP seeds, and 2 WW seeds. I got them from Montreal Cannabis Seeds. I have no idea of the quality of the seeds, but it's the only canadian place I found that had any GDP. Price was okay and shipping was fast.
It will be fine if one plant is a little behind the other... the only thing about running different strains is one might grow taller or faster.. might have to adjust lighting to pander to the shorter plant... and I would say if you're growing in a 5ft tall tent a 10g smart pot is too big you are gonna waste a ton of soil... I grow in a 6 ft tent and I'm pretty sure my 7g pot is too big 5g seems to be the sweet spot...
I thought that with no-till the bigger the better, so I got the biggest pots I could without them being too high. Apart from using too much soil, is there any down sides to using bigger pots? I'm going to use these for this grow since they are set up. if it doesn't work out, I can always get smaller ones. If it changes anything, I was planning on doing a SCROG. the pots are in rubbermaid totes, and I was planning on installing the SCROG just over the rubbermaids. Thanks!
I mean there is nothing bad about the big totes it just takes a little longer for your plants to take off... they have to establish a root system before they start growing... so the bigger the pot the longer that takes...
I always put my seeds in a match box with 2 bits of sand paper and shake it to scuff the seems. Then I soak em in water and heat them gently from underneath. 99.9% of them have opened great. my latest creation..... SOUR DEISEL, STRAWBERRY HAZE first run to test before the gorilla glue #4 go in!
I checked this morning and it still hasn't sprouted. Il wait another day or two and try to sprout one in a paper towel and see how things go. I might try a white widow seed
GDP #2 still hasn't sprouted, so last night I put a WW seed in between a paper towel. The seed sprouted this evening and I just planted it in a small container with base soil. I put a clear ziplock bag over the pot to keep humidity. Hopefully being in a smaller pot it can catch up somewhat to the GDP that is in a 10 gallon smart pot. the GDP broke ground on the 28th, so depending on when the WW breaks ground, it will have about a 2 week head start. If I understand the small pot/big pot thing correctly...
I don't see 2 weeks being a problem in veg... I have 16 that have vegged for 2 weeks and then switched to 12 12 and I added another 5 2 days ago so they are 3 weeks behind and straight into 12 12 so the new 5 will be small. They will defo catch up though if u leave em veg long enough My latest creation...SOUR DEISEL, STRAWBERRY HAZE first run to test before the gorilla glue #4 go in!
