So while being hella high today, like most of you blades I had a highdea.

In my current grow (first grow) I have a lot of popcorn buds, 1-2 grammers.
My idea was, what if I could train a plant to only grow main colas and not the popcorn? How would I accomplish this feat though?

So my question is, does the trimming of undesirable new branches, actually transfer that energy that would have been used on those branches, back to the main branch?

For example, what if I topped a plant a plant twice, but cut off all the little branches that form, would the main branches that I want to keep get beefier? Or would I just be losing out on popcorn bud.

I know that people trim all the bottom branches and shit because of this energy-transfer whatever it's called idea, but is it possible to chop all the worthless shit so that you only get big buds?

The reason why I want to know is, 1. to increase my yield, and 2. because I didn't trim all the little branches on one of my plants and I got a few big nugs on the ends of the big branches, but the rest are 1-2 gram nugs.

Here's the plant I was talking about. I tried to include as good a view of the branches as possible.

Also, tomorrow is harvest day guys! I'm excited.

  2. Dingus pick up Secrets of the West Coast Masters by dru west its a little pricy $40 but it has diagrams that show you exactly how to do it and when to do it. I built the rig in the book but downsized it and put it on wheels...i use dowels instead of wire ...works great for me

You can grow single Cola plants by taking clones and as they are rooted send them into 12/12 right away. Then 2 weeks or so into flowering you want to take off all the side branches that have grown on there, which looks like at first detrimental, but it will cause your plant to grow one large bud.

However, you can cut down a lot on the popcorn buds with what you said. When I go into flowering I usually wait about a week or so, then remove the bottom 1/3 of the plant's branches. Those are the small ones that are never going to get the light they need to develop into anything desirable. Cutting these branches will give more resources to the tops that you want to get bigger and more solid.

EDIT: Your picture is more or less spot on to what I do to my plants when they enter flowering. It cuts down a lot on those loose airy branches that are a hassle to trim because there's more leaf than bud. As for how your plant grew, it would have probably been more consistent if the canopy was even, try methods like LST after you top to try and keep the tops at the same height for even penetration.

  4. growing one single, big bud is very doable. this is what sog growers do. do a search on sog (sea of green.) that will give you all the info. you need.

  5. Oh trust me I've read plenty about sogs. I'm running CFL's so I don't think a sog would be a very good use of my wattage. What I meant was a clean, effective way to produce only big colas through LST and other training. I just read a portion of the book Dr. Mengle suggested and it has exactly what I was thinking. I definitely encourage all of you guys to at least look through the google preview of the book.

Also I have a White gold clone that I got and put into the flower room immediately, so it's like a 1 plant sog haha.

Don't lst. The only reason for doing that is hight management and to produce multiple colas. The exact opposite of what you want. Don't top or fim either.

Did you read my op at all? :/ I want multiple colas, just not like 50 small ones, instead like 4-8 big ones

  8. Low stress technique does wonders, all main collas no popcorn

What? Obviously you didn't read the thread or at least even look at the diagram pictures which explain my idea thoroughly with only like two sentences in each diagram. You're the one being an ass, it's MY thread. Tl dr? Wow get the fick off a forum then. If you didn't read the thread why even bother posting? Reported.

Edit: I never even said anything offensive to you I just assumed you didn't read the thread by your first reply, I never even said anything that could possibly be considered 'being an ass'

  11. Dingus what does tl; mean? I am ignorant of the nomenclature

Too long didn't read. It's what ignorant people say on forums about posts that are like one fat paragraph with no punctuation, or just long posts. Anyone who says tldr on a forum like grass city needs to be slapped. If you're too lazy to read, on a forum so based off of reading, they should go back to first grade.

Also my op is definitely not very long at all.

  13. Dingus this is the rig from the book that i had a friend build for me. I always do two plnts but really 1 plnt is less work and probaly would yeild more but i haven't got my skill level to the point where i'm comfortable yet. There is a learning curve. This is dwc currently but i have done dirt in it using airpots and dwc /dirt side by side

Wow! I wish the google preview let me read more about that training rig. It's really just a square to tie wire to help lst as well as scrog right? I'm thinking of combining coco coir hempy buckets with that rig as well as whatever plant training method it say in the book. I read about how they keep like four main branches and then from there a certain number of branches off of the main branches to add up to 64 colas I think?

I can't wait to try this myself :D

  15. My thread is Dr Mengle's perpetual grow for the handicapped sorry i have no link but look it up lots of pics and text on how to build and use it.

  16. i tie down every time i grow. i use 5 gal. buckets. i just drill holes around the top lip of the bucket. when i see a spot where there is no bud, i loop some string around a top, and pull it over to the empty space. i usually have a good dozen foot long tops. works great! have no experience with cfl's though...

  17. I've lurked your thread before and what you've got going on is very impressive!

I was going to do this but I don't have a drill, and I've been borrowing my friends whenever I had to do some drilling in the cabinet. I basically tried my best to do lst with twist ties pulling branches down from the dirt and around the rim of the pot.

  18. Main-lining produces nice even colas.
Subcool talked about it on a weed nerd episode and there is a tutorial on another forum that goes into great detail about it. I am not an expert just a fan of the end product.
This is OG # 18 that I mainlined and scrogged that has about 23 equally distributed branches that should form some nice colas when flowering really starts.
She is just starting week 3 of flowering under a 600 watt hps in a 7 gallon smart pot.

  20. Get outta town!! He was at a seminar...do you know if he's on a tour like the guy from House & Garden nutes? I got the WHOLE line of their products as samples at the lecture.I allready used their stuff but i would never be able to afford to just experiment with all the reccomended stuff...now i'm hooked
