online info?

  1. hi guys and girls

i've recently ordered some seeds and wish to breed from them. I have a very basic understanding of the Hardy-Weinberg model and thought an online archive containing info concerning genetic traits of popular strains would be helpful, does one exist?

I've found some info and websites but there very vague and not very helpful, a website which listed dominant and recessive traits would be amazing, however, im sure my chances are low, just thought i'd ask

any information or thoughts on the subject are greatly appreciated:D

  2. It would be a very difficult task to document all the dominant and recessive traits due to the many variations of strains produced by so many breeders. One White Widow is not like another's version of White Widow.

F1 seeds grow fairly true. It is when you inbreed an F1 hybrid that the dominant/recessive traits and different phenotypes become present. Places which produce female seeds use the F1 mother to produce their seeds. Furthermore, places which produce the same name strains often use the F1 mother to recreate the strain, however it is not the true line strain genetically speaking.

To create a website documenting all the possible dominant & recessive traits would almost be confusing for different breeders produce different versions of the same name strain, so there would be literally 100's of different traits and phenotypes to log, and one would never know which version they have b/c many seed producers buy their seeds in bulk from Spanish and Dutch seed producers and resell them under the same names, making it impossible to know exactly what is what and/or what exact genetics the strain actually possesses.

  3. Are you wanting to breed two strains to create another?? My best advice is not to bother. Trying to create a new strain is a long complicated process, which most of us aren't capable of doing. I have found it easier to trade for seed or buy a strain you like and allow a female to be pollianted for seed.

  4. This is true. Breeding and creating, or even just reworking a already created strain is a difficult process. I have over 8 yrs in some of my work. Unfortunately, I no longer can risk growing the number of plants it takes to do a decent breeding project. Nor do I have the space. In one project alone, my Thai X, I grew out well over 80 plants of each strain and then growing 80-100 of each successive generation, then the inbreeding, it is a long and time consuming process. Even just making stable seeds from an F1 hybrid can be time consumng, unless you just want some unpredictable F2 seeds.

i have been looking for a while now and i dont have any links for you but there are some sites that you can find simply by google . type in marijuana srtains , lineages, gentics history of cannabis. even some of the seed banks have listings of the seeds parents and genetic history. but you'll have to search for them . if you want to do it for a hobby n just for the sake of doing it sure but i am cetain that to stablize a hybrid like less said n i trust him on this it takes many years n many plants that an average grower is not in the position of massing.
i say get what you want n go ahead n do it just to do it . you only live once right just dont give up on it for a few years . n you should be able to know what to expect (somewhat)from that monster you create. keep it simple dont over complicate it trust your senses when selecting . n just do this over n over back n forth. at least thats what i would do if i were you.
