Not quite sure what kind of illness our baby has. A week ago we introduced the hps lighting to the plants. The light is about 2 1/2 feet away. Now on the top of the leaves there is a lot of yellowing going on. Just wondering if this is a burn from the new lights or what this is. If anyone could throw me a few ideas it would be much appreciated. Please and Thank You! Here's some pics.
You know my knowledge on this matter isnt to advanced, however it seems to me like it would be a light issue because its happening up top, and not down below, but its hard for me to believe that light bieng so far away would cause a problem on lower leaves than the tops. Do you have a fan blowing the heat inbetween the light and the tops of the plants, or a fan on the tops?
Looks like moisture is condensing on the leaves of the plant durring the dark period, and when the lights kick on - the leaves that are yellow now were wet, and got burned by the light Check the humidity in the grow room, and check the tempature veriation from light and dark periods. If your humidity is high and there is a wide swing in temp from light and dark periods. Try to control that, and if your not able to control that. keep a fan blowing on the plants in the dark period as well as the light.
either heat burn from the new lite, but 2 ft away it doesnt seem right the new growth at the top of the plant, has that grown since the new lite or was that showing aready, and just not affected....if it was there before the new lite was introduced, next thing I,d suspect is wild PH fluctuations what is your PH of the water , the soil, & the runoff
that looks like bleaching to me. caused by the light being too close. 2 feet doesn't seem too close though.
I've had the exact same thing on a few plants. There was water condensation on the leaves. Maily where one leave was directly over or touching another one, caused by 75% humidity in the room, and a drop of 23 to 25 degrees durring the dark period. I would look at the leaves right after the light came on, and they were wet. I'm almost 100% sure thats what is happening here. Good luck, and can you let me know if that is what this was after you check?
I was hasty, I was busy looking at the bleached area I didnt look at the rest of the plant, sorry I think this plant is showing magnesium def. the leaf margins are curled upwards on the new growth aswell as the older growth is lightening between the viens. 1 table spoon of epsom salts to 1 gal of water, foliar spray some of this on both top and bottom of leaves, give the plant a short drink of this solution and you should see improvement in general health with 2-3 days the 2 bleached leaves will not recover so do not be concerned about them keep us posted
Thanx a lot guys and gals,(if there are any.) The leaves are not new growth, they were perfectly fine when we put the new light up. After we put the HPS up the humidity in the room dropped from 38% to 30%, and the temp. raised from 68-70 degrees to 78-82 degrees. So, as of last night we got everything back under control and the rest of the plant seems to be doing fine. I will keep you guys updated if anything else should occur, but I'm hopin' and prayin' that things are gonna be A.O.K! We just found out 2 days before that it was a girl, so of course, my luck-shits gotta go wrong! Thanx for all the replys though, much appreciated!
I agree. This is classic light bleaching. Happened to me right after I added my HPS. Either the water in there is condensing at night or you are spraying the plants. If you spray don't. Anyway, probably a moot point now since I am late to the party.
Check this out, looks the same to me. http://www.drugs-forum.com/growfaq/1022.htm One of the best FAQ's on the NET.
