omega 3's?

Discussion in 'Fitness, Health & Nutrition' started by yurigadaisukida, Feb 27, 2013.

  1. The big rage now but I'm.having trouble finding actual studies.

    Can anyone help me out?

  2. Omega 3's are extremely important, but that doesn't mean you should be gorging on them. The brain is almost entirely composed of omega 3 FA's, that should be an indicator that they're important.

I pop fish oil pills as I feel like. Sometimes my gut tells me it wants it, sometimes I go days without eating any.

For the most part though, I prefer to add flax oil to my fruit and veggie smoothies. Flax oil has ALA. ALA can be converted to EPA and DHA in small amounts. ALA also is used for many things that EPA and DHA are not.

There's a lot of hype out there for omega 3s, and a lot of it is justified. However, unless you've been diagnosed with some kind of serious mental or physical disorder it won't be anything too amazing. Though you should notice an improvement in overall well-being if you've been starved of omega 3's like the majority of Americans.

    That's my 2 cents.

  3. Its good to boost Omega 3's as the modern American diet is to low in those and too high in Omega 6's.

  4. I know the fad.

    I'm.asking about scientific research and.publications

  5. Been Googling around.

    Can't find anything

Some sources say that the science doesn't back up most if the claims.

Its good for your heart and a nessesary nutrient but you don't need as much as they are saying you do.

Seems like another marketing scam to me.

Eat some grass fed beef free range chicken and fish as a standart part of your diet and you should be fine.

  6. Thanks

  7. I prefer to eat raw hemp seeds when i can find them much better source of fat and it doesn't have that foul taste the fish oil gives you

  8. I read somewhere that omegas from meat are easier.to digest

You have to ear like 3x as.many.omegas if.you.eat seeds

    Ill look it up.to.confirn

  9. Since you want studies, Granny obliges! I have a small (private) Omega 3 List! :D this is straight off my home List- I am not going to sort out the news articles or anything.

  11. Damn its gonna take me a week to get through that.

  12. it is not that simple these days. this is unrelated to omega 3's but i think t kinda goes with the idea that are food is lacking nutrients. In America our soil has been mineral deficient for about 70 years. therefor our food is mineral deficient as a result we are mineral deficient.

  13. Beef/chicken have no omega3s or very little. Cold water fatty fish is THE best source.

  14. Thanks granny. You always post good stuff

  15. Beef and chicken have plenty of omega 3 if they are raised correctly

  16. Grass fed beef is an omega 3 source. I've never seen a place I could buy it, though.

In general I would recommend using canola and flax oil whenever possible. Don't go overboard though, it's just one of many healthy fats.

  17. I saw a study recently that showed major improvements in stress levels for college students who were given flax oil.

I definitely notice it too. After I started adding lots of flax oil to smoothies with frozen berries and veggies, the difference was incredible.

  18. good nutrition is really simple, but we are so clueless about the power food holds over every day things.

your body consumes food for survival if you put the wrong shit in.. it's going to have a very hard time working properly.

eating a salad instead of white rice is a step forward, but once you incorporate a lot of variety of veggies and seeds and nuts... that's when real magic starts to happen.
