  1. Hi, I was wondering since I've visited Rona Canadian Tire and home depot. None of those places carry what I need to remove/ mask the smell of a small grow in my closet.

I don't really want to order online. I'm trying to avoid suspicion from my fam ,but that seems to be my only option right now unless Honeywell products are good good air purifiers.

I'm looking at the small $50 Honeywell Product from my local hardware stores.

For online im looking at vaportek products. I'm not sure how these work, http://www.hidhut.com/catalog/vaport...ne-p-2164.html , http://www.hidhut.com/catalog/vaport...tor-p-494.html it doesn't really tell me. here's what i think, just open up the cap and it does its job. if you can clarify this for me that would be great.

I'm looking into these ones, I'm grabbing the $30 one and the $2 one.]

These are the disks you put into the odor controllers.

Will These products hurt my plants if leave it in my closet with my plants?

I'm growing 4 Afghan's right now. They're starting to smell just a bit in my closet.

I've been looking into carbon filters but I CANT install ducts so I'm think carbon filters are useless for me. Unless i can get the carbon filter and let it sit in my closet with the plants let it do its job. what do you think?

I thought about ozone generators but I hear they are unhealthy for living matter. so that's a negative.

've done a bit of research but it still doesn't answer some of my questions XD

Thanks for the DIY Carbon filter stuff, but I'm really unsure how they actually work, like does it really need a duct? lol i havent used a carbon filter and already i dont like the idea of it. Rather just have a wam-bam thank you ma'am kinda thing. like outlet + refill product = No smell.

Does this need to be ducted/vented outside or can this just sit in my closet and let it do its job?

im getting 4"x12" carbon filter, but i dunno if its good enough my closet space is about 41"x23"x89"
    [3f5"x1f11"x7ft5"], would it suffice?

Plus im getting vaportek disks and puttin it in my room so it dun stank up my floor and upstairs.

1 more question is that your ebay listings?

  3. Hophead,
From what I read this does not need to be vented/ducted. I was going to go with that solution when I didn't have a tent. That isn't my ebay listing. I Personally use a grow tent with ducting into a carbon scrubber. Not sure... maybe someone on GC has used something similar and can offer some feedback. To be honest I don't think it's a good idea to be growing if you have family members that might get upset with you growing. To me the stress of trying to hide it isn't worth it.

  4. ONA bucket with a 10" (i think) fan I hear masks odor very well. If you want to scrub / remove odor, you will have to use activated carbon filter, either build your own, or buy one, i'm not really sure where to pick one up not on the internet other than a grow shop or MAYBE a Heating and AC specialty place.

  5. It is all good. "What mama don't know won't hurt her" <--------- pretty much applies to anyone.

  6. There are two routes I have found to help with odor.

You can either mask it with ONA products or filter it with some sort of carbon scrubber. Check out the many diy carbon filters/scrubbers in the forum. I'd go with the carbon filter. They're cheap/easy to make and all the parts can be picked up at home depot or walmart.

  7. You could use something like that or build one from a 5gal bucket. Also if you are only growing a few plants the ONA bucket would probably work for you too. And it is a lot cheaper.

  8. I plan on making an ona bucket when i do my first grow, which ill be using a low odor strain(c99 or c99 cross) to see how the smell is. Ill only be donig 2-3 plants. So im pretty sure the ona will work. But I want to do a white widow and super skunk in the future. The ona more than likely isnt gonna be as good for those stinky strains. Im in an apartment.
Is there a tutorial on the 5gal bucket one your talking about?
    thanks

  9. I had a problem with a grow closet smelling. I have a carbon scrubber inside with a can fan drawing air through the scrubber and exiting out the top, and it still smelled. I came up with a simple solution. I left the scrubber inside but placed a 6 in net pot used for hydroponics and put this quolo fill (stuffing for deco pillows) in the bottom of the net pot and put about an inch of activated carbon over the top of the quolo fill. I then placed it right into the 6 in exaust port that comes out the top. oder is gone!

The filler is called polyester fiber fill from walmart sewing section. $3.50
activated charbon 9 oz walmart fish dept. $5.50
6 in net pot local hydroponics store get the one that is netted about 1 in on the bottom
full netted ones dont work well. .80 cents each.
    works great

  10. Neat creative solution. Think you can post a pic for us?

  12. The polyester fill dosnt allow the carbon to fall through but allows airflow to move through. I like the crushed carbon over the pellets, air hits more surface area.
I just drop this right into the 6in ducting coming out of the top of my cabinet.

  13. I would drill some side holes to increase airflow. Other than what appears would be severe airflow loss looks cool.
