odd dilemma at hand

So this guy Ive met like 3-4 times in my life randomly hits me up on facebook and starts talking to me. We engage in casual conversation for some time then he brings up his band. I then ask what he plays and how touring is treating him, and he says the usual stuff "oh its going good...ect.." Then he asks if i play, which i have for quite some time, then he says wow man i need another guitarist and stuff. Then asks me if i want to try out for his band im like hellz yeah!!!. Well he told me to call him today about it which i did, and then the hammer is dropped on me. Its a Christian band that plays at churches and stuff, he asks me about my faith n my relationship with god and all that, well im not a believer nor do i go to church. Well he starts telling me a story (or so it felt like) about how he thinks its a sign that i should start going to church again and re-evaluate my decisions, but he still asks if i want to join. and heres my problem.

1) I dont have a problem with most christians or christian music (i love hardcore christian music, anberlin, red, and other christian bands), but im not really a follower i mean if there is a god my views on what he is deviates from that of christians.Like i could write my own religious book on this.

2) I play hardcore and hard rock, they play song that involve 3 chords. A C D to be exact and 1 Am (just an example of 1 song)

3 I know they dont get paid or dont get paid much, but that doesnt bother me i just want to play music, but he doesnt want me to play music because i love it. He wants me to play music because i love god.??

I want to play, but i dont want to shame their band or anything. I mean i honestly dont know it might be a sign. It might just be an opportunity that i never had a chance at who knows.....Fellow blades what do you recommend i do or tell him or what!!

 

Bump with a twist.....hes really really religious like hardcore. its almost scary, but hes a cool dude i use to play paintball with him.
