[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKOTX0OmlNk"]YouTube - Obama Says He Will End 'don't Ask, Don't Tell'[/ame] Now, call me crazy, but I have a very hard time believing that he truly cares about gay rights. Whether this comes to fruition or not, does anyone else think this could lead to the possibility of the draft being reinstated?
I agree with your first statement, but I don't see the connection between 'Don't ask, Don't tell' and the reinstatement of the draft.
Well, I believe that whatever action the government takes, ultimately benefits them in some way. First thing you do is ask yourself, "Why would the government want to end this policy, and in what way would it benefit them?" It is clear that this administration will continue to wage and expand wars. If being gay was no longer a valid reason for not being able to serve in the military, can you imagine how many more people they would be able to round up if the draft was reinstated? It just seems like a logical first step to take if you were planning on having a draft again, to be able to make it the most effective, and to be able to get the most people in. Or maybe I'm wrong, and gay rights are a true passion of Obama's, and he would only be pushing for this in order to make everyone equal and happy, yayyy!
He said this more than a year ago. Its not like it takes so much more than his signature on a piece of paper. WTF is he waiting for? It seems like the new excuse for the dems is "Obama has a lot on his plate right now." So, what exactly IS he working on right now?
http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/tue-october-6-2009/the-gay-after-tomorrow "You're the president of America, when you're plate gets too full, you get up and get a bigger plate, mister"
QFT Hes mother fucking commander-in-chief of the military. On a side note, I heard the full plate excuse tonight at school and laughed.
Yeah, on the issue of same-sex marriage, Barack Obama finds himself to the right, ideologically speaking; of Dick Cheney, as odd as that may seem. To me it seems like obvious pandering to people who believe gays have a place to serve openly in the military. He's made no real effort, thus far, towards allowing gays equal treatment in the situation.
There's never going to be a draft again, don't worry. Not because we won't need one, but because it just won't work in today's society.
You know what's funnier than a blond joke? A blond joke made by a blond to someone named blondie who would probably get the reference. You know what's funnier than a blond joke made by a blond to someone named blondie who would probably get the reference? A neg rep for making a blond joke. If you can't say it in the thread, why act all cowardly and do that? One word for that kind of behavior, but it's not nice so I won't use it. Maybe I'll neg rep it over, oh no, that'd be just flat out douchebaggery. AvemaryA if you have nothing to add to this topic why post in this Thread.........unoit
Yeah, okay. I don't care to "say it in the thread" to you because it has nothing to do with the topic at hand. Neither of your posts have been necessary or even relevant thus far. So, no, I don't believe Obama actually cares in any way about gay rights or equality. He's just pandering and now, basically ignoring some of the people who for voted him in. I think there's zero connection with a draft here, though. They might want all the people in the military they can get; but I don't think this is a sign a draft is on the way. A draft is not going to happen, at least not anytime soon.
You wanna know whats really ridiculous? Obama is only doing this to get some positive media attention and approval ratings amidst a sea of broken promises and failure. And despite the simplicity of doing away with this policy, he still can't get it done.
I have to agree with you here, but I wouldn't rule it out. The Gov. always has an angle. I worked with so many gays and lesbians when I was in the military, as a matter of a fact, half of my Wing at Beale was in this category. I am not kidding. Maybe they are looking at retention issues they could be facing...Lets face it, there are a lot of gays in the military. Who knows. I just have to giggle because I do not agree with most of DOD Policy.
So true. My friends said that I should write a book about my experience. It was interesting....VERY interesting to see how the military operates...from all sides. I was a Reservist, an ART (Full Time Fed Civil Service for same unit I was attached to as a Reservist) Activated/deployed several times, and played the Active Duty "game" when I was a Recruiter. Fuck what a ride. It was HELL to pay to get out of there...that is a story all by itself. Oh well...No regrets. Learned a lot...I am thankful for the experiences.
