Holy shit this thread is filled with fail.... Obviously none of us understand how the political system works, including myself. But to accuse Obama of doing a '180' on all of his previous stances is just wrong... Sure, there are many things that he said he would fix (don't ask don't tell), and has done nothing about, but I really do trust the mans judgment, he's an extremely progressive minded liberal, not a retard. He understands that Marijuana should be legalized and regulated, he's not a fucking retard! The problem isn't that he is against marijuana, it's that Americans as a whole just aren't ready for it to be legalized just yet. It wouldn't be good for his re-election, which is something ALL presidents put onto their main agenda the second they get into office! Wether that means he will do something his 2nd term, I can only hope. All I can say is that it's not up to him as much as it is the American people. When we're ready for it, and the conditions are right, it will happen. I'm not going to pretend to understand how politics really work, but I put a lot of my own trust into Obama, something I have done with virtually no other politician (I come from Chicago, talk about corrupt). True capitalism does have some fall-backs but generally the system takes care of itself. The system balances itself out, yes it does leave some richer than others, but the super-rich have no vested interest in making the majority poor because otherwise there is no-one to purchase their products/services and keep them rich.

Note the peaks and valleys, and then find out what was going on in terms of drug prohibition during the peaks. Now take a look at a chart of the US market since the 1900s. I disagree with you completely. Behind every "pressing" issue there is a drug issue. And therefore they can be solved with strategic and intelligent drug legislation.

He has made it clear in multiple debates n videos that he opposes legalization. I mean, the raids have pretty much came to an end for the most part, at least to my knowledge. I understand there are more issues than mj but that is what I am watching closely. Jim Webb's prison reform bill seemed to have gained popularity real quick on the 'left side' and now it is bipartisan with Obama's cabinet's backing 110%. This, if anything, will be the hope for decriminalization. I know many people here are for legalization but I am not. I prefer the Netherlands' ways IMO. If anyone knows when Webb's bill is expected to pass, please let me know. Or I guess I should say when it is expected to start the process of passing this shit.
