Obama Goes To GOP Lions' Den -- And Mauls The Lions A lot of people have been disappointed in Obama lately, and they have a point; very little progress has been made on health care, and bipartisan efforts have been essentially fruitless. His response to legalizing marijuana was also laughable. Nonetheless, I thought this video was fantastic. You can't, and shouldn't be able to, change the country overnight, but at least if we've established the direction they're heading so we have a criteria to assess future policy on. edit: the introduction speech (and the q&a after) is available here: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2fBVEz1_DA"]YouTube- Pr. Obama at GOP Retreat (1)[/ame]
Yeah, the Republicans had the opportunity to rip him apart, and they failed. There are no more excuses for the idiocy going on around here.
The most important thing is the implementation of intelligent, well thought out policy that benefits the citizens of a state. We can deal with petty political bickering, and more radical ideas, after we've fixed what we have now. If the republicans don't want to work together with a priority on the state rather than partisan self-interest, their constituents need to decide whether that is how they want to be represented.
Well one thing's for sure. He's sure as hell a better speaker than Bush But I want my legal weed dammit!
Honestly I just wish the GOP would die and be replaced with the Libertarian party. Democrats and Libertarians, now that would be a good selection to choose from . And damn, Obama owned the hell out of the GOP. He had me cracking up when he was saying the Republicans had reacted to the healthcare bill like it was a "Bolshevist" plot.
Seems like the Republicans were too busy talking shit to actually research their claims, and I think Obama saw this and saw it as an opportunity to deal some whoop-ass.
The basic message is: "Democrats are allowed to demonize and oppose, but we expect YOU to fall in to line when we're in power. The fact so many of you fall for this shit is sad. Democrats have had control since 2006 and a super majority sine 2008 and STILL you want to pass the blame.
It's kinda bad at the start that he under-estimated how hard it would be to accomplish bi-partisanship. But politically, this was a good move on his part. The right thing he did in this speech was target directly at the american people as his audience and basically told them "You really want to know why nothing is getting done?! These guys will not cooperate w/ me to save their own lives.. and we kinda.. sorta need their help"
So where is this OMG PWNAGE that you guys speak of? The Bolshevik line? You guys are reacting, like, well, He burned the Republicans. All I saw was more finger-pointing and Obama engaging in partisanship while decrying the problems of partisanship.
Well, the Republicans weren't able to argue the stuff they've been spewing for a year now, so yeah, I consider that to be "pwnage".
