  1. I'll just tell you what happened, I wont offer any analysis, I'll just tell.

One quick note: I wrote this on my laptop when I was still on my afterglow the next day and just copied here now, so some of what I'm going to say will be a bit incoherent, bare with me!!

So midterms just finished last week, and me and my buddies all went out this weekend and we were gunna go to some bars, then hit up a few clubs, and then finish the night off at a house party. (We live in NYC, so the choices were innumerable). We proceed to go to our first bar, totally sober, and we order ourselves a few cocktails, and quite quickly get drunk. We then go a bit more of a dimmer, more romantic type of place and drink some wine, now elevating us to being considerebly to extreamly drunk. We could feel a good night coming on, so we decide that smoking is a good idea. My buddy takes us on the street behind the bar, and we proceed to smoke a bowl, then another, then another, the 5 of us split eight bowls. No joke... eight.

Everything gets more vibrant, the city lights glow, the people move faster, people talk with more life; it was the closest thing to euphoria I've ever experienced. Knowing that tonight would be a night to remember we decide to go to hit up the clubs. We first go to Pascha (A European superclub recently opened in NYC)

We go inside, and the sound just hits me like a freightrain. Would you believe that we came the night PVD (Paul Van Dyk) was DJing. The stars were truly aligned for us that night :)

Anyways, with the melodic trance blaring, the strobe lights flashing, and the people dancing, I hit my zenith. It was beautiful. This wasn't in your face techno, it was sweet, sweet, slow, melodic trance. I fealt this connection between everyone on the dance floor. We were alive, we represented this single entity that was moving, and bouncing, and gliding to and fro together... as one... to the music. We were like a wave in a tumultuous sea, moving up and down together.

I suddenly turned around and saw two of my buddies just looking up at the ceiling waving their arms smiling with content. He caught my glance, and nodded his head and smiled. We were all on the same wavelength. (I'm not gay or anything, I'm just talking about friends being friends heh ;-) )

I decide to take a breather, and a take a seat in the bar. I look at the dancefloor, and I look at the flashing strobe lights, and at the DJ set, and I think to my self: "This is how you've gotta live man"

I go outside to smoke a cigarette and then suddenly this feeling of confidence and selfworth comes over me, and I just start smiling like a mad man. I run back into the club and jump right into the dance floor with the other 600 or so people waving their arms and moving their hips to the music. I close my eyes and just move. I didn't think about anything besides the music. Me moving was just my reaction to sound, nothing more, nothing less. And this beautiful buildup came, and it suddenly got all quiet, and then BAM the song was in it's climax, and I thought to myself, this is my climax, I'm at the peak of my high. Suddenly I realized that me and the music were in sync, perfect symmetry.

As the night continued, memories were made, and I truly had the time of my life. I'll speed up to the after party now where I'll (finally) conclude this story.

So now, I was on this afterglow, it was indescribable. I had my iPod with me, and I was just chilling out to Royksopp, Thievery Corporation, and some Broken Social Scene. We were in a cab heading downtown to this girl's loft. And with the cab moving fast, the wind behind us, and the river to the left of us which was barely visible through the foggy window it felt perfect.

We got to this girls house, and I started talking with some kids, had a nice conversation about politics and some new authors and then I said I had to go to the bathroom, but instead I went into the kids bedroom, got into bed, snuggled around the covers and softly fell asleep. I woke up the next morning at about 11:30 AM, still feeling buzzed, I was anxiously putting my clothes back on thinking where the hell where my friends, and why hadn't the woken me up earlier to take me home. I tiptoed downstairs and suddenly I saw the entire party sprawled across the floor all sleeping. Atleast 15 guys and girls just sleeping on her couch/carpet/pull out matress. This girl's living room became one massive bedroom. I walked into the kitchen not expecting to see anyone, but these two pretty girls were cooking eggs. I didn't even say anything I just pointed to the living room. The chick smiled "Oh, haha, we were all tired, and we decided why go home? Lets just all sleep here, and enjoy ourselves."

What a perfect way to end a perfect night.

  2. ahaha, half way through I was just like "..wtf"

sounded like a dope night though

i love the city at night

  3. heh my bad man, I wish I could've written it better... but it is what it is :-D

  4. that was pretty clear. i like how you explained the music haha

    sounded trippy as fuck

  5. that sounds pretty sweet, cant w8 til im 21, what kinda herb were u tokin

  6. Shit. That sounds like one crazy mother fucking night. Wish I could have nights like that. Wow.

  7. sounds fucking awesome man. randomly walking in on paul van dyk night. i'm not a trance guy, but he's the fucking man. my night at the cursive show worked out in much the same way. there's NOTHING better than a night where you get fucked up, in the best possible way, you have a BLAST, you see cool things, have good conversation, sleep in a BED, and come downstairs to a couple hotties cooking you breakfast. fantastic story.

  8. +rep for that description
exactly the way I think of it man, it wasn't like a sleezy, hazy, stoner night (which can be fun), but it was just a hearty good ole fun time with friends. very for filling

  9. I think you need to try ecstacy.

  10. Haha, are you sure somebody did'nt slip some ecstasy in your drink? Seems QUITE a lot like e to me. Like halfway through I was like, this guy needs to try e, cuz that would just make that night and the music and all that like 10x better.

  11. Funny that you say that because I've been considering taking x, but I dont know enough about it, and the health risks seem to be pretty serious.

  12. I was going to say, you didnt get spiked with x eh? :p nah, try it man, you haven't experienced euphoria until you do.

  13. might be trying it tnite. !!

  14. what you described at the club is exactly how I feel at raves. When i'm rollin and know that theres hundreds of other people there on the exact level as me enjoying the music its amazing... not to mention the bass that surges through your body like electricty.

  15. thats awesome man +rep for the great story

  16. thanks bro.

  17. laff, i was also thinking about ecstasy the whole time
