nutrition burn? cant tell what's wrong...

Discussion in 'Hydroponic Growing' started by iisdude, Sep 3, 2019.

  1. Hi, Im a first time grower, just overnight, my little guys started shriveling up like this. I was initially worried they were getting too much water in hydroponics, but I realized I could've nutrition burnt them by adding a bit too much miracle gro during seedling stage. I can't tell what's happening here, can someone give me a hand? thanks!

    Here are the pics:

  2. Without knowing exactly what you've done so far, it looks like too much fertilizer.
But it could also be wrong pH, or bad water.
If the bad look happened right after adding more fertilizer, then that's almost certainly the cause.
Above a certain minimum amount, fertilizer becomes poison to seedlings, as you have probably seen.
The plants might be damaged beyond repair, but it's probably worthwhile to try to fix things and wait a few days to see.

With hydro, it's impossible to drown in well-aerated water, but knowing ppm and pH are crucial.
Without ppm and pH pens (cheaper pH drops and strips are ok too), having a successful harvest is unlikely.
Keep pH around 6.0, and ppm500 around 100, and see what happens.
That could mean emptying out the reservoir, and replacing it with new.

  3. thanks so much for your response. the PH should be at the right range, I've strip-tested it. So it'd gotta be the miracle gro, even though I started at like 1/2 strength, perhaps it's gotta go at least 1/4. Geez I hope they survive...painful lesson for me. If their roots are blocked by nutrition, which is causing water to be isolated, how long does it usually take for them to sort through?

Also, when you said beyond repair, do you mean the roots have absorbed way too much nutrition beyond repair, or the plants are already wounded?

Again thanks so much for your help.

  4. also, how do we determine when we add nutrition? I have read about the ratios of NPK, but not sure when to start, only when extra sets of leafs have appeared?

Also, my hydroponic system has a 22 cm height, I have 2 light modes, 1 is well...weaker light (slightly dimmer), and another is stronger light (normal sunlight), is it possible to burn the leaves with overly strong lights?

  5. Forgot to respond to you, would really hope to get your take on my other questions, thanks!

  6. Man miracle grow soil sucks! Most in here won't even be able to help with that crap. Nutes I guess could be ok. Time release soils are the worst. Pics would help. Read some threads too that may help u get more insight. Here is mine. I have great grower OGs on there too
