Nutrient burn, what to do...?

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by Bullistic, Sep 30, 2011.

  1. I watered/fed yesterday morning and today I am seeing nutrient burn on several leaves on all 4 of my plants. I understand the thing to do would be flush them with clean water right away, however I use tap so I have to let it sit out to get rid of the chlorine. Also since I just watered yesterday I dont want to have over watering problems.

So what exactly should I do? I figure one of these options would be the way to go..

1 get some water sitting out right away with an airstone for a few hours to get as much chlorine out as possible and then flush.

2 buy a gal or 2 of distilled water for each plant and try to dilute the nutrients (5 gal of dirt in each pot)

3 just let it go and water with clean water when the soil gets dry

  2. Hi .

    Option #3.

  3. That was the option I was leaning toward the most. This is my 3rd grow and the first time I had to worry about this issue. What is your feeling on trimming off the burnt leaves?

  4. Personally, I just wait and see what is left
and in good shape, after the episode has passed.

If it looks like crap, I snip it.
Im a neatfreak tho, and sometimes I get carried away.

Watch out for that urge lol.

  5. Yea, I got a little carried away with trimming on my first plant, learned my lesson there. Thanks for your help.

  6. I would consider how much you think you may have overdone it before ruling out flushing.

  7. Well, it took a day and a half to start really showing burn so I don't know if that says anything. Growth doesn't seem to have slowed down any either.

  8. FFOF

The ultimate potting soil-everything your plants need, in one bag. Ocean Forest® is a powerhouse blend of premium earthworm castings, bat guano, and Pacific Northwest sea-going fish and crab meal. Composted forest humus, sandy loam, and sphagnum peat moss give Ocean Forest® its light, aerated texture. Start with Ocean Forest® and watch your plants come alive!

Do not add nutes to already pre fertilized soil. Most soils will last you 4-6 weeks. alot of soils also run hot. Adding nutes to hot soil will cook them. My roots potting mix lasts till week 2 of flower and then I start adding nutes slowly and build them up. the reason you go slow is in case those roots hit some soil that is not spent.

    Good luck man

  9. Good lookin.

  10. I agree with this ODP, but I personally find that Fox Forest Happy Frog
mix is an even easier soil for young plants, imo of course lol.

  11. Have not tried the FF soils... I may on my next grow. The roots soil I have been using is rough on young plants and the PH is 5. Not a great starter soil.

I almost added nutes myself to pre fertilized soil on my first grow. I see so many newer folks doing this. That and not adjusting the soil PH. That I did screw up my first grow. Thats how we learn. This is a fun hobby with great benifits. :)

  12. I'm using MG , it has been in use for 7 weeks. My plants looked beautiful lush dark green. However, I figured the soils nute's had to have diminished a bit... So I began adding 1/4 tsp of that blue MG mix once or twice a week, it worked great. Then I added another 1/4 tsp so now its 1/2 dose; it worked great so I went to 3/4 tsp "Bam"! Nute burn l the next day showed lite signs of nitrogen toxicity: burn tips and the infamous curled down talons, mostly lower leaf. 3 huge bushy plants were hardly effected the drank that shit up nicely! However, my "rescue" plant sativa strain, tall spindley. Fast vertical growth slow lateral growth. Other 2 are a skunk variety (dog berry). They are only 5 weeks old. So the rescue & skunk plants were effected not the other (majave og kush) their strong. Yesterday the appeared to be recovering nicely then this morning they got worse... Not sure what to do?

  14. My 2 skunk plant were forced into flowering early(4-1/2 wks) anyway once the begun showing preflowering I gave them one last feading 3/4 dose and it nute burned the shit out of them which never fully recovered although, they are flowering nicely no signs of hermi'ing do to stress. It definitely effected yield however.

  15. Dont forget to let the girls dry out for 4-5 days after a flush.:passing-joint:
