I'm leaning towards nutrient burn but have been feeding at relatively low ppms in coco. Plants are at day 20 from seed. Any thoughts?
Using RO, I have been using the canna grow guide light feeding schedule and then shaving off 30%. recent ppms were 500-600 ppm hanna.
Really??? Now I'm confused... I use Cal Mag and Protekt to get to 200 ppms and then I follow the guide shaving off 20-30%. How can that still be too much Cheecha?
It's been my experience to never follow a schedule..Instead start em at 1/4-1/2 of what they recommend and see how they do..That goes for all nute brands.. By looking at your pics, and you feeding at ~500-600 at that stage, it's way too hot(IMO)..And you could prolly do w/o the protekt for now.. And another thing, you're using too much calmag also and most likely that is also contributing to your leaves spotting..Hope it's ok to post these.. Good luck!.. http://www.totalgro.com/concepts.htm http://www.marijuana-seeds.net/Thanks-ThankYou.htm
Should I flush? If so, do you recommend plain tap water ph'd to 5.8 or should i add a little nutes and calmag? 3to 1 volume flush or until runoff ppm is reasonable?
My flush is mostly, lowering nute strength till I reach my tap levels~120ppm(.5) un-pH'd last few days or so..YMMV, like everyone else.. I would not flush with calmag, period..
Is that in addition to the ppm of the water? The reason i ask is because that is exactly what im feeding them. I get the water to 200 ppm first as Canna recommends and then I add 300-400 in nutes, rizo and cannazyme.
Maybe I'm not the best to answer because i have never used canna. However I would shoot for 300-400 before adding beneficial bacterias. Hold off on the silica and calmag till you get the feeding down. It looks like you are over feeding magnesium which is probably cause of the calmag.
You may also be root bound. I can't see your full size plant but those fan leafs look too big to still be in party cups.
Ya, I hope not. I will be transferring them into 3 gallon smartpots as soon as the mykos gets here. Should be Monday at the latest.
I flushed with ph adjusted mix of tap, distilled and just a ml/gallon of nutes (around 200 ppm for everything) with twice the volume of the medium and took ppm readings of the runoff. A first the runoff was coming out at 600-650, especially on the damaged plants. By the end of the second cup the flush readings had dropped below 300. I probably could have gone through another cup (3:1) but had to take off for work. The salts had built up in just 20 days to a damaging level even though I had been feeding until runoff. I will be adjusting slightly and going for a bit more runoff in the future and probably a flush every 2 weeks to prevent future issues. Thanks guys for your advice!
Hey TR....Think you did everything you could man...It's just wait and see now game... A couple reasons for getting salt build up is letting coco dry out to much, over fertilizing and not enough run off... I think most coco growers, during the seedling stage like to let the coco dry out more than when in vegetation to get oxygen to the roots. I would recommend backing off on the nutes some and slowly build up if needed to avoid salt build up. Another way is to allow for 30% runoff with each watering/feed...It's just a matter of getting the grow dialed in and knowing the strain to avoid more run off during seedling stage. During vegetation you want to always keep medium moist. Allowing for 30% run off is a safe guard unless you really have things dialed in.....
Thanks Cola, I can't believe how much support and guidance people here like you provide. I appreciate your time greatly and will be sure to pay it forward as I gain my own experience. Come to think of it, I have been letting the medium dry out a bit too much. Will make sure that doesn't happen too often for now on. Thanks again.
The thing about "salt buildups" is that if you're steadily feeding the right level of nutes, you hardly need any run off at all to maintain a healthy grow. It's much more important to give the right nutes with little run off than too strong a feed with loads of run off. Even letting the medium dry out.. I mean you don't want to do it to the point where the plant wilts, because that'll cause irreversible root damage, but a mostly dry pot shouldn't cause a burn in itself if the nutes in the pot are right. Almost all the time you see problems there are a few elements involved, like silicon, boosters, etc etc. For me, 1.2ec of base nutes is enough to keep the plant motoring through it's life. You should always get your growing dialed in with the base nutes before you add anything on top in my opinion.
Watcher, i was feeding the right amount of nutes. I never went above 650 and yet the salts still built up. The temps have been above ideal at 84 or so and i can see how the plants drying out so quickly led to the medium being coated with salts as h2o evaporated. I think that under normal circumstances where temps were 75 or so that not as much runoff would be needed. I am limited on space and didnt want to raise the plants as would be needed to do 30% runoff so im stuck with deep saucers and a turkey baster to remove the runoff.
