Nutes Question!!!

  1. Ok I know time release nutes in soil are a no no, but is it still safe to use nutes that are time release when the plants are ready to be fed them?????

    any help appreciated...

oh and I heard nutes that are good for toamtoes = at least usable for cannabis?

  2. From everything I've read and experienced, time release nutes in soil should be avoided by everyone except advanced growers. Search the forum for PGAMG (Pot Growers Against Miracle Grow.) There are many strong opinions in there against MG, but also about time release soils. I personally just had to transplant from Miracle Grow into different soil, because my plants were starting to show very poor health. It is hard enough to tell exactly how much food the plant is getting from the soil, and how much, if any, you need to add during waterings. High intensity lights, like the ones often used to grow MJ indoors, break down the "time release" nutes in the soil too quickly, often providing the plant with too much nutrition. The last reason time release soils should be avoided is that they usually have enough nutes in them to "feed a plant up to 3 months." This can become a problem later on in flowering, because you are not supposed to feed the plant any nutes for the last couple of weeks. Sorry I tried to keep it short, but ended up going a bit crazy, but I hope this helps.....

  3. most will say no time release nutes ever in the plants life, but if you are intent on using it then make sure to dilute it with regular soil, and only use it when the plant is at least 30 days old. i've used a 75% organic 25% MG soil mix on my first two grows (start to finish) and, while i thought i did pretty good the plants i have now have never seen MG or MG soil and they look so much healthyer.

  5. ...And another light goes on. Glad to see someone is stating to listen. I think I will start a new rules section.

    New Rule:
    1. Ask first.
    2. Check respondents expertise. If they can't show you a successful grow, one without misshaps there not experts.
    3. Follow advice.
    4. Don't go cheap.

    Any questions?

  7. To your questions:

    - No, don't use time-release ferts when the plants are ready to be fed. Time release won't feed the plant right away, even though your plant is ready now. Time release ferts will feed it over time, at a rate you can't control.

    - Plant food for tomatoes or general use is fine, just use a proper one for veg and another proper one for flower.
