Well I took care of the ph and heat problem but now I'm pretty sure my plants have nute burn after comparing them to photos on the net but I'm not sure how to handle it because of different opinions. I was mixing my GH nutes at 6-3-2 and I raised it to 12-6-3 following a grow log and I think I must of over did it to quickly and the damage has spread through all my plants. I drained my resevoir and I dropped my solution to 4-2-1 hoping this will clear things up. My question is this, should I leave my solution as is (4-2-1) or should I just run straight ph adjusted water and let the plants just feed off the nutrients in their leaves. I read somewhere that if you just run straight water it could shock your plants so you should mix a weak solution which I did and another post said that I should just run straight water for a week and the plants should heal except for any burnt leaves... Any advice on this?
you keep speaking in NPK values, in regards to you nute strength do you not have an ec/PPM meter to actually know the strengths in your res?
Sorry about that Ganja Guerilla and thanks for all the help you've been giving me. It's much appreciated.. I use EC x 500 to calculate my nutrient strength. My ppm was at 600 and I raised it to 1000 per a log I was following. The plants are around 29 days from seed and stand between 8" and 9" My ppm right now was lowered to 500 The leaves were turning a light green before I raised the ppm but have gotten worse and now some of the leaves started burning. I posted photos before that you seen which you thought it was heat stress and I agree that it was one of the problems along with the ph jumping around before I got my meter so the PH problem has been resolved also. I attached some photos where you can see the light shades of green taking over the whole leaf and on one plant the new growth is a lighter green. I went on your site and compared photos and seen one problem could be lite stress so I raised my light up to 30" above the plants from 24" Hopefully you can determine what the problem is from the photos. #7 & #8 are the same plant. the bottom leaves are turning deep green and the top new growth is turning a light green. The deep green happened today after I lowered my ppm. Thanks again.
I just went in to check my ph and I noticed that the plants are starting to droop now. Here's another photo.
whats the PH of the res now pic 3 still showing heat or humidity issues, which could be residual from the previous heat issue the rest of the pics are showing the nitrogen defencies and the droop how often are they being watered? droop can be from nitrogen toxicity and overwatering............. overwatering will also cause the yellowing
I've been keeping my ph at 5.8 and I check it before every water cycle now. I'm watering every 6 hours during lights on. Last night they looked droopy but this morning they looked really good with the leaves reaching upward. I lowered the cabinet temp to 22 Celceus. Everything I read said 24 Cecius was optimal so that's what I kept it at. I'm going to go back to watering every 8 hours and see if that's the problem. My humidity is fluctuates between 41 and 51 % but mostly around 46% My ppm is around 500 right now should I leave it or raise it up if it's a dificency problem and by how much would you suggest to raise it up. I have a small fan blowing under the plants can that be causing a heat problem? The leaves actually feel cool to the touch. I'm using GH flora series nutes. One more thing about my water it's has a high ppm reading from 250 -300. I found a place that has RO water so I was going to mix it with my tap 50/50 I can't use straight RO because I just purchased 5 liters of micro for hard water and to reorder cost me $150 for shipping because of where I live. There is no source for Cal-Mag here either. Would that be a smart thing to do or should I just keep running straight tap water with the nutes. Thanks for all your help GG
Well I think I may have found the problem with the nutrients. I went out and purchased another tds meter and it was showing almost double the ppm then what my other meter was reading. The other meter was a CF ECOstick which only measured between 200ppm and 2600ppm. The new meter is able to read 0.00 in distilled water so I'm sure this one is working correctly and I tested the water with a friends meter to make sure. The water I'm using right now which I thought was at 500 ppm is actually at 910 ppm I figured I would bring it down to 800 ppm and see if that works. Any advice would be appreciated.
I would worry about changing the watering schedule now, just work on correcting the PPM and the nitrogen toxicity if you change too many things at once you wont know whats working start checking the plants for droop 1 hour or so before and after the lites go on I want to know if this is a chronic, daily, re-occurring droop
I didn't change the water schedule so that's still at 15 min every 6 hours. ppm 755 ( was 760 last night) PH 5,7 ( it creeps up mid afternoon and morning to 6.2 so I knock it back down) water temp: 23 Celcius Room temp 23-24 Celcius humidity 48-51% Last night about 3 hours before their final watering the plants started drooping. They had a watering at 6 pm and looked fine most of the day. This morning 2 hours after their water cycle they looked good but they are still getting the light green lines in the leaves. Should I bring the ppm down even lower? The plants are growing at least 1/2" to 1" every night. One other thing I changed yesterday was the nutrients. They're still GH 3 part but a fresher batch. I found out that the first batch shipped to me were beyond their shelf life date . This time I bought directly from GHE and not from any of their retailers, this way I know I'm getting fresh nutes. My plants reached the 11" mark and I was planning on switching to 12/12 next week because I figured they would be about 15" by the way their growing.. I need your incite on this if I should hold off or not. Thanks again GG for all the help.
Hey GG, I took some photos before and after the 2nd water cycle. I also tested the water before and after the 2nd water cycle. The plants do look a little better today except for the tip burn on some of the new top leaves. Before: ppm 760 (EC x 500) PH 5.7 After: ppm 750 ph 6.0
good news just be patient & the burnt leaves will not repair themselves, so your looking for no more burning etc
Thanks GG for pointing me in the right direction, I'm going to put them on 12/12 next week and I'll give you an up-date on a new thread. I just checked on them an hour after their 3rd water cycle and they're reaching for the sky. They're really looking good today.
