northwest grower's co-op growboxes

  1. I'm looking to set up a small new growbox and I came across this pre-fabed cabinet on ebay. It's a 24x24x60 cabinet which has 2 four foot fluorescent fixtures mounted vertically up each corner. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7774903388&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

I was thinking of hanging a 150W HPS in there for flowering. Also seen on ebay:

And also attaching a fan with a carbon scrubber:

I'm only interested in growing 2-3 soil plants at a time but I want them to be really nice. Does anybody have any thoughts on the overall plan? Do the ebay items listed there seem OK? Thanks.

  2. DO NOT BUY THAT CABINET you can build your own for 1/3rd of that price just use 2x4 boards as the frame and make your box 2ftx2ftx5ft then put MDF boards(which cost like 6 bucks for a big sheet) painted flat white as walls or covered in mylar then just buy that hps light and a computer fan as exhaust and you wll save a lot of money. also you can make your own carbon scrubber for about 10 dollars. go to ur pet store and buy some activated carbon then find 2 screen the same size as your computer fans this will be the way the air blows out through you need a way to keep the two screens conected and you need something to hold the activated carbon in there so i made walls out of carboard and just used eltrical tape and it fits perfectly over my computer exhaust fan and elimnates all odors but you will need to replace the activated carbon like every month but its cheap.

  3. Thanks for the good advice. That cabinet probably would be pretty easy to build now that you mention it. What do you think though about the fluorescent lights running up the corners? Will the 150HPS be enough without them? And concerning the carbon scrubber - the computer fan are strong enough to blow through the carbon? Thanks in advance.

  4. All the floresecent lights will do is stretch your plants you could maybe add some once its bigger and starts budding but before that stick with the hps. That hps would work for ur space but you could easily get a 250 watt hps light at www.insidesun.com for 85$, but keep in mind depending on where you live a 250 watt hps light will add about 10 bucks to your electrical bill a month and during flowering stage 5 bucks a month. Yes the computer fans blow through the carbon scrubber but obviously this slows the exhaust.

Heres a link to a fan that was made to use a filter with it

You might consider buying that carbon scrubber off ebay if you cant get this to work.

You said below you want 2-3 plants well if you make ur space 2x2 you can fit 4 plants in there easily.

  5. if youve got an old refridgerator you could also use that with only a few modifications. or you could just buy some ply-wood and nail it together its the same thing
