Northstar22 First grow. in a box..

    i Just set up my first microgrow . I would like to know what you opinions are on my set up, and how i can make it better.

    2 23wattt 6500k cfl {NOW HAVE MORE LIGHTS AND MORE PLANTS SEE BELOW FOR DETAILS}
    1 26watt 6500k cfl
    1 26 watt 2700k
    1 26 watt 5000k
    2 fans
    1 lowes large size box.... listed demisions are 24inx18inx18 but is actually 28in tall with flaps up.. i used reflectiXe insulation 12.99 ENOUGH FOR TWO BOXES AND EXTRA. all i had tell i can get foylon or mylar/


    fox farms ocean forest soil

    any suggestion on improving my little set up please post i am not afraid of constuctive critisism....

    i have peruvian sea bird guano i have been feeding the plants.... i also have some floranova grow but have not watered yet..

    what is you opinion on running 5,000k +5500k +6500K cfls together for veg.

    i am going to be using lst on my plants.

    i have 1 purple kush is biggest, 1 headband, 1 sour diesel, and 1 og kush and 1 blue widow ... { My CAT likes them}

    i think i need more light any suggestions.......

    updated.... picked up a blue widow clone today.... i have a pretty good variety now.... as for lighting what do you recomend i add to my set up....

    had some issues with heat last night.... i put my top on and in couple hours the temp rose tremendously.... what would you recomend to help me battle heat....

    i think you should add at least another 100w. I was told that it's 100w's for the first and 50w per additional plant. your set up looks nice. do you have the fans 1exhaust and 1 intake? what was the change in temp (how many degrees) and i would say add an extra fan, it worked for me when i had the same problem. oh and what are the dimensions of the box?

    i just looked through ur pics and you need to exhaust the heat out. it looks like once you put the top on all the heat stays in. i would suggest adding an exhaust fan to the top or somewhere near the top. Do you plan on leaving the top off the entire time the lights are on? if not i would also add or use one of your fans as an intake for fresh air(replacing the used Co2)

    maybe adding 2 or 3 more 26watt 6500k after you get an intake and exhaust set up that should be enough for what you are doing

    It's looking like you have a nice start!

    1. I would recommend more light. The consensus on GC is 100watt for 1 plant, and 50watts for each additional. You don't have to follow this, but you will be limiting your yield otherwise.
    2. I don't see any exhaust fans in your setup. the air inside the case needs to be exchanged every 5 mins with new air. I see 2 fans blowing down onto the plants, but nothing exhausting the air out. Going to be an issue with heat i think.
    3. Is there a lid that goes on top of this box? You will need one come flowering time, needs to be 100% (as close as possible) light proof.
    4. If you use a lid, then those fans are really not doing anything other than blowing hot air around the box.
    Hope this helps some, and ignore any points that don't apply. just going by what I could see in the pictures.

    i added more light today i now have 2 26w 5000k, 2 26w 2700k, 2 23w 6500k and 2 26w 6500K ....

    i also got another clone an ancient afghan + Chemdawg cross......

    i will deffiantely pick up an exhaust fan asap tomorrow i tried today but both lowes and osh which are close to me had no good fans.... i am going to go to my closest hydroponics store and get a good fan.....

    yes i do have a top that has the same insulation. i leave it off during the day only because of heat issues but i put it on at night so my room isnt lit so much.....

    if i go to 18/6 for tonight tell i get the correct circulation would there be any negative changes.... or would the plant just use some of the energy that it has stored...

    and as fpr the temp change ast night went from 77 to 98 by time i woke up and check i was not too hAppy with that... but live and learn this is my first grow and i am still researching a lot to get the knowledge i need to have a good harvest...

    the box i am using is 24in x 18in x 18in it is from lowes and it is there large size...

    I WILL POST PICS OF MY SET UP AS OF DAY 4 IT HAS CHANGED FOR THE BETTER I THINK OVER 4 DAYS I GOT MORE PLANTS AND MORE LIGHTS NOW I JUST NEED MORE FANS...

    Here are the updated pics of my set up.... Day 5 10:50pm

    i now have 8 lights 2@2700k 2@5000K and 4 and 6500K....

    i have 6 clones plus a little expiement in the mcds cup....

    6 different strains should be fun to watch to see how all different these plants really are....

    i picked up a ancient afghan+ Chemdawg cross never heard of the cross before but it sounds nice...lol

    i believe i have somewhere around 12,000 lumens ... do i need more... the only cfls any of the stores by me had were only 26watts at the most so i need to find some higher watt lights if i need more light cuz there is not much room in my box left as you can see form the pictures....

    the reason i have the lights that i do are because i want to try to have the fullest spectrum of color i can without going tremendoulsy overboard for my first grow... i really am just trying to soak up all info i can so any info you offer is greatly appreciated....

    here are the pics as of ten min ago let me know what you think.... { i know i need an exhaust fan for sure....

    somthing that could help with the heat until you get ur exhaust is reversing one of your fans and use it to suck the heat out. it's the same principle as an a/c unit

    if your trying to get the full spectrum of color, get full spec cfl's there usually about $2-$3 more dollars than the other ones. I saw someone on GC using the full spec cfl's and they said they got a bigger/better yield but didn't post any pics.

    finialy here are pics of my current set up as of day 5 9:30am.... 8 lights, 6 clones, 2 fans, and a large lowes box...{ need a exhuast fan picking one up shortly}..

    check it out let me know what you think.... This is my first personal gro op...

    i need to move some of my plants closer to light... trying to find something around my house i can use... already used all my old cd cases.....

    Going to pick up 2 4" hydrofarm squirell fans.... Hopefully will help circulate the air....

    The only way you are going to keep those temps down with the lid on is to get some serious exhaust going. I think you could just use one of the fans you already have. Might be kinda hard to mount it but that would sure work.
    Then you will need some sort of intake so you are pulling in some fresh air. I think you would be good (temp) if you get the intake/exhaust situation worked out.

    i saw 2 4 inch hydrofarm squirrell fans on craigslist..,.. for 30$ i picked them up and he also had 3 430 watt hps and 2 1,000 watt ballast and light with them that he sold to me for 50$ for all of them he was just trying to get rid of everything i will post all he gave me tommorow the list is too ong to write uo now... i am too tired.. but for 120$ i got a carload of grow equipment. there was one bottle of nutrients mroe then i paid for everything.... i had an early christmas present from craigslist.. so now i will be running a lot more light and air........ i did some more lst and supercropping on my plants check them out as of day 5

    first 3 pics are of my purple kush... next 3 are my blue widow..... last 3 are of my ancient afghan+chemdawg cross.... i will post pics so you can see the progress my set up and plant have made since lst and supercropping.... i appreciate all your post ... i amgoing to bed the og just smoked put me to sleep....

    Wow man, nice find on craigslist, I'm jealous! Nice job on the supercrop/lst work. Looking nice man. :yummy:
