Originally, my first grow was going to be dedicated to Banana Kush. I've changed my mind on that and instead narrowed it down to two popular strains that apparently you won't go wrong with (even though I'm sure the BK is awesome as well). Northern Lights and White Widow...I just don't know which to choose! Both are indica strains and will be feminized...and this will be an indoors operation. But which is easier? And will selecting NL hybrid seeds (like NL#5 x Skunk) increase the difficulty?

Which strains do the posters here prefer the most? My head is pushing me towards the Northern Lights though, especially after a girl friend of mine told me about her experience smoking NL a year or so ago.

I think NL is much more Indica dominant and easier to grow than WW...especially if its your first grow. NL gets my vote.

  3. Northern lights is very nice

  4. Start with bag seed man. Get your system down and then buy good seeds.

No reason to waste good genetics and money because of an amateur mistake which you will most likely make in your first few grows. Happens to everyone.

Spend that seed money towards good nutes and light. And who knows you might just find a gem in that bagseed.

  5. Don't listen to him go ahead and invest in quality genetics

  6. ^Ok.

Being that he posted in this forum I can assume he has no/little experience growing.

If you don't know how to properly grow a plant you are wasting your money buying good genetics.

  7. i did northern lights on my first grow, but nirvana has 30% off white widow femenized seeds for this weekend could try those, but NL were awesome :D

  8. Nowhere did he say bagseed was an option.

Im growing my first plant and it's a white widow. It's a very touchy plant and definitely teaches you how to respect Marijuana. Definitely somewhat challenging but I think im doing very well. :)

  9. i would go with white widow... i did go with white widow. seeds from attitude are sitting in water now. i say go for gold right away. wouldn't it suck to put 5 months into a plant just to realize you should have went for the good stuff. if you get good seeds and the plants die, it won't be a waste. even if you grow bag seed, that strain will be totally different from another. pick the strain you want and master it. you may loose a few, but you will learn. if you have any sense and a good forum to help you through you will have a great grow. maybe buy both and just try a couple of each. either you pick will be great. good luck.

  10. Haha ok. Na I was just browsing and thought I would offer advice to a beginner. I've grown a few plants before and know that Northern Lights is a very good
Plant for people starting out plus it's a great high. Assume all you want about
Me bossman, you don't know me @ all

  11. I did both and found both to be very easy to grow. The White Widow produced a lot more and spent less time in veg. The phenos I got from the NL produced a very nice quality bud, but not as good as the Widow.

  12. White widow is more sativa dominant, you can enjoy it without falling asleep. Indicas such as NL would make me sleepy, usually, though I am not 100% as NL may be diff to indicas I tried a long time ago.

  13. If it's your first grow do northern light's there very easy, short, don't smell to much, there great for beginners.

  14. I was thinking of doing NL too for my grow room. So yous should do NL now and maybe try WW later. But NL is great.

  15. Two good choices. Get some of each, grow both, decide for yourself which you prefer (or you might find you prefer to have a variety of choices to match your mood, time of day, etc).

I agree that NL should lean more indica and WW should produce a little bigger, but you can get different phenos and also depends on nutes and training and such.

As for the buy genetics vs. learn on bagseed debate, either can be a good choice. As has been pointed out, bagseed is a good idea because you might screw up on your first grows so why waste the money, and besides nothing wrong with bagseed (it might even be NL or WW, what makes it 'bagseed" is simply your lack of knowledge about its origin/genetics, says nothing specifically about its quality). Starting with genetics also can be a good idea if you are confident that you are dedicating yourself to doing this right then there is less chance of making fatal errors, and so whatever harvest you do end up with you might as well make it what you want and of the highest quality possible. Two sides of the same coin, ultimately it comes down to the grower's own assessment of his ability to pull off a semi-successful (or better) grow the first time around.

  16. The bagseed approach is smart, the only problem I have is

    1. Finding NL weed somewhere and hoping there's at least a couple seeds in it

    2. Sexing/Cloning. I wanted to skip this process altogether without having to worry about having all male plants or males that might fertilize a female plant and ruin it. Getting feminized seeds would be easier for me I think on my first grow not having to worry about that.

  17. I am planning on the NL for my next grow, femmed seeds. You can find them reasonable prices, and they seem to be a stable, easy to grow strain from most recommendations. I cant chime in on the merits of either though, as I am still on my first grow.

That being said I feel I can tell my opinions on the bagseed vs genetics thing.

Originally I thought bag seed would be better to start with because as many have said, you may very well screw up. Buying expensive seeds seemed to me to be a bad idea when I have a bunch of free ones laying around. So I started with bag seeds. I have had some difficulties and it has been a tremendous learning experience. I have also lost two plants from rookie mistakes.

However, after 7 weeks in I am personally regretting not just getting some femmed seeds and quality genetics. I started with six plants, and am now down to four from mistakes. Compared to what I have spent on lights, nutes, fans, filter, and all the other little things that go into a grow the money for 5 good femmed seeds is a drop in the bucket.

At least with quality femmed seeds I would know that I am going to get females out of all the time and work. As it stands now I have a crap shoot on my hands. Although it is improbable it is entirely possible that I could end up with four male, useless plants after all my hard work, money, and effort. For less than what I pay for one bag locally, I could have had more of a guarantee of my outcome. Add to that the fact that you know the genetics, and can better approximate yield, growing time, and final height and now I see why most experienced growers either order good seeds, or go from clones.

    Just my opinions and experiences.

  18. Buy quality seeds and use 1 maybe 2 and take clones for free ;)

Then, if you fuck up you got some more quality seeds in your pocket and you can try again?

  19. Seriously, grow bag seed and put all your effort into growing that. Once you figure everything out and you get your grow area just right, THEN buy some kick ass beans.
