Okay, so I want to transplant my month old plants outside in a field. Tomarow I'm going to buy everything I need from a store near by. Here is what I have to work with: Peat Moss - Pretty good quality peat moss, Cow Manure - Dried cow manure, should I use this or Mushroom compost? or both? Mushroom Compost - See cow manure. Top Soil - $1.50 a bag top soil that I could use as my base possibly? Blood Meal - Pellets, people say not to use pellets and go with the powder, sounds stupid but if this is all they have available could I crush the pellets up? Bone Meal - Again, pellets. Same question. Lime - I don't think it was dolomite lime, didn't get very long to look at it but it only said lime on it. Can i still use this? Overall, could someone give me a soil mixture using all or some of those things. I really don't have access to anything else besides that at the moment. Thanks a ton. +rep for help
I would go for the mushroom compost. Are you positive that the cow manure is safe to use? If you got it from a reputable source then you're probably good. If not, then just substitute the manure for worm castings. I would use a 'shroompost' / EWC mix, but thats just me. Crushed up powders will be quicker to break down, thus making them available to the plants quicker. If it's convenient to crush the pellets, go for it. If not, no biggie. You could probably use the garden lime. I'de also add some kelp meal if you can locate some at your store. If there is no perlite in the top soil or peat moss then you will need to add some to aerate your mix. As for the proportions of your mix, I'm not sure how much your end yield needs to be. There are many soil recipes on the forum that you could track down that are good reading material. HTH MC
