Noise Cancelling Foam

  1. Hey I know some of you cant stand the sound of those exhaust and intake fans you could live with it but you would rather not. Same here blades it pisses me off already have one 6 in' and getting one more for intake, well lets get str8 to the question will this work out like if you wrap it around you your fan http://www.soundproofing.org/sales/prices.html I really hope it does tell me what you think blades.

  2. Hi two,

I don't think it would work just by wrapping the fan in it.

I have decent fans, that run almost silently when not connected to ducting.

Connect 'em up to some ducting and..."Whooooosh!", that's where the noise comes from. Restrict the airflow into the fan (increasing duct length, etc.), and the pitch and volume of the whoosh increases.

Unless I could line the whole cab and ducts with that foam mat, I don't think it would do me much good, and I'd still hear the whoosh from the exhaust in the loft, so I'd have to line the roof with the foam too.

Interesting, but too expensive I fear.

    Cheers.

  3. I agree, the fan does not make any noise. It's the air that makes all the racket.

  4. Just trned on the fan its not that quite but I can get used to it, its just that damn vortex that will make me loose sleep I know what if you wrapped that shit around the end of the ducting then add more ducting over that like right over it ductape and done, I bet that would reduce fan noise drastically.

  5. The sounds you hear is the air rushing by 'something', possibly other air.
The fan makes noise allright as it's chopping away at the air with them blades.
The smaller the fan the higher the frequency of the noise.
Get neat a windpowered electricgenerator and the noise is so low a frequency you can't hear it's base frequency but you can feel the pressure waves allright.
You can also hear the air go swooshs when the blade comes flying by.

Bottom line, bigger is more silent.
Airflow grows exponentially with diameter of the fan.
My advice, get something big, this goes for the ducts connected to it as well.

  6. i dont know if wrapping it would be a good idea, maybe mounting it on a rubber base may help. or line your walls with stierafoam sheets,, they sell it in sizes just like plywood,

im in the process of a build, and my exaust fan is the next step, if its too noisy ill be lining my walls with this noiseproof material, and its white so no need for mylar or paint.

i do understand yor pain, my first grow souned like a plane was going to take off, right at the foot of my bed,,, all night long,,, those days are funny now,,, grow and learn,,,, grow and learn,,,,,,

youll get that noise took care of ,,,, patience and experimentation,

now if you took that material and lined the walls with it ., i bet it woul;d reduce the noise.....

  7. THX FOR THE REPLY CHICKEN i THINK iF i BOUGHT A HUMUNGOUS bOX AND LINED IT WITH THAT MATERIAL THEN PLACED IT OVER MY CAB maybe just maybe I can sleep better. I can sleep with the inline fan but one more is just insane and that vortex is sumthing else too only cons about growing is Fan noise fo real.:(

  8. Without doubt.

If you're mounting fans on walls or shelves, then yes, add a layer of foam or something between the mounting and the wall, to absorb any vibration.

A much better solution is to suspend the fans by bungy (elasticated straps) from the roof.

  9. Yeah I think im just gonna find the biggest piece of Cardboard and make a house for my Cab and cut a door in the front big enough to grab my plants out,Or better yet cut up a bunch of moving boxes and tape em up since I just moved and all.The only thing thats killing me is the shipping damn 25 bux for piece of mind.

  10. this exaust fan your running, tell me about it? i ask this because im getting ready to '' hook my exaust system up '' . ill proably go with a 4 '' fan,, the hose will be no longer than 6 ft. at most, [ is yours a '' regular round fan'' or a box fan, or a nice '' hurricane fan?]

i plan on mounting the fan in the middle of the hose, it will have 3 ft, inlet hose, and maybe 4 ft, to the filter,

now my question is this regarding, your negative pressure, drawing your inlet air in.

does your inlet air draw strong ? hope you understand a little what im saying [ im buzzed] :p

  11. Yeah I kinda understand what your saying but those inline are best for shorter distances unless you have a blower you can add miles and miles of ducting. Heres the fan I got http://www.discount-hydro.com/ventilation.asp you could also get them at HD www.homedepot.com search for inductor, and this negative pressure you speak of is caused by having the same amount of air or sumthing like that being pushed from the intake lower part of your cab and exhaust upper part of your cab kinda rough but you get my drift.

  12. I'm heavily into modding computers, and have used noise reducing foam pads in some of my cases to cut down on the noise from fans/water cooling systems. They work pretty well, but you have to make sure you cover all the surface area for it to work. If you're growing in a closet, cover the inside of the door with the stuff.

  13. Thank you thank you think you can point me in the right direction of where to purchase this foam you speak off lets hope its cheaper than this http://www.acousticalsolutions.com/iwwidb.pvx?;multi_item_submit

  14. i was contemplating on using stierafoam sheets for my noise cancellation.

but i went ahead and double lined it with 3/ 4 '' plywood,,,

we will see where the noise is now...... :devious:

  15. i just bought a brand tesnew 6inch vortex fan...but i also agree its way too loud! its also hangging in my cabinet on bungee cords..does anyone know if i but one of those speed control things to attach on to the fan, with reduction of speed will there be reduction in noise?

  16. There will.
