If they wave or nod, I wave or nod back. I ride a Vespa so only about 1/2 of the other motorcyclists I see wave/nod to me. The old Harley guys are the best. The young squids are way too cool to acknowledge a Vepsa.
I do the traditional biker wave where you extend your arm down and out below your knee. Hard to explain lol
Whenever I take my electric moped out for a cruise I give all other bikers the nod. Most actually give me the nod back.
i do it all the time no matter what they're riding. if they don't wave back no biggie. i usually nod during a maneuver like a turn
I used to do "the wave", where i put my hand out low as we pass... but only to Cruisers, I don't usually do it to crotch rockets (I will return it sometimes) and never fucking scooters. But I haven't been doing it as much, I moved to an area where there are many bikes, and I ride a lot with my Club, so you kind of stop waving after a while. I'll always return a wave or nod though. http://forum.grasscity.com/pandoras-box/1012684-ask-real-life-biker-questions-about-club-life.html
Since when are scooter riders "bikers"? I agree about getting tired at waving sometimes. The first 10, sure. The next 200, heck no.
But you fuck traffic up riding slowly on the side of the road in rush hour I think scooters are neat and all, and they're good at what they're supposed to do, but shouldn't be road vehicles. Not sidewalk either... this town needs some damn bike lanes.
Bike lanes for a scooter? You're joking, right? Go ahead and pull your Harley over about 6 inches from the curb and cruise at "scooter" speed for a bit. You might find holding that line is a hell of a lot harder than you think. I see your point, but It's meant to be a road, not a tightrope, and all bikers (motorized or not) should have mutual respect.
Not all "scooters" are 50cc motorized bikes with a top speed of 30mph. My Vespa is only a 150cc and it has a top speed of 65mph. I'm not going to take it on the highway, but it keeps up with traffic just fine. Vespas have engines up to 300cc which will easily keep up on the highway.
Most of the time. I can't get too distracted in the city or on mountain roads. I almost rode off a mountain wavin at bikers.
I nod if the other biker nods. Most don't, thats gotta be a new york thing. I have a 150cc Vespa too and I've gotten her up to 70. Scary, but possible. I got it to get around manhattan, it's small and quick for city traffic. I am currently in a cast, waiting for surgery. Had a fall on Vespa actually. It was slow, but the bitch landed on my ankle.
Alright, that sounds reasonable. Here, I dunno if they just don't exist or if the people riding them are scared... but I've never seen one that's not holding up traffic. I don't really mind unless it's rush hour, then it's pretty damn annoying squeezing two nearly bumper-to-bumper lanes of traffic in to one. I'm just frustrated by the traffic, most of my shifts are evening shifts but I'm heading the same direction as the 9-5ers so I get caught up in that shitstorm of slow, mindless drivers. Turns a 10 minute drive in to a 40 minute drive. I could take a different route, but they're all the same. Fucking packed. Gah, rant's over I guess. Sorry I got so off-topic...
